The sweet promises made by the opposition to gain the support of the people in Sarawak is just like a man who will make all kinds of promises merely to win the heart of a woman, said Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The opposition could make whatever promises to the people but what was certain was that these were merely meant to deceive the people so that they would reject all efforts made by the BN government all this while, he said at a gathering of the government with the people in the Sri Aman division today.

NONE Unlike the opposition, all the promises made by the BN were those that could be implemented and this had already been proven by all the programmes that had been implemented all this while, he said.

He said the BN government would not adopt politics of lies as practised by the opposition because it did not want the country and the people to be destroyed.

Taib, who is also the Sarawak BN chairman, said various ploys were being used by the opposition during the election and he advised the people to be careful so that they would not be trapped by the opposition's sweet promises to champion the cause of the people.

Meanwhile, Taib said the solidarity between the people of various races in the state should be garnered by sharing knowledge in all areas to bring further development to the country and Sarawak in future.

He said the success of a nation no longer depended on government assistance alone but needed the strong support of all strata of society who had a better understanding of what the government was doing.

The chief minister said the people should accept new ideas from the government so that the people would earn a higher income through the economic transformation policies drawn up under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
