Hard-hitting remarks on MCA and its president Dr Chua Soi Lek made by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz has evoked strong criticism from leaders of this key BN partner, who described Nazri as arrogant and suffering from "delusion, amnesia and inertia".

They said Nazri's words against Chua and MCA, including using the term "neglected wife", went against the 1Malaysia concept introduced by Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak and would further alienate Chinese voters.

NONE In an exclusive interview published by local Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau today, Nazri lashed out at MCA, saying the party has been putting the blame on Umno for its own failure to regain Chinese support.

He challenged MCA to quit BN if it was not happy, instead of "scolding Umno every day".

"MCA is like a wife who keeps complaining to outsiders that she has been detained, sexually abused and denied food by her husband, but she refuses to divorce."

Nazri also warned Chua not to act like a "Chinese hero", shoring up his reputation by condemning Umno.

He even poked fun at Chua's sex DVD scandal, saying the latter would not be welcomed by voters as his private part had been exposed to the public.

"... has been viewed by all people, you think the female voters will support him?" Nazri said in the Nanyang interview.

He did not spare another BN component party, Gerakan, either, saying its situation was worse than MCA's because Gerakan "is a party without grassroot".

gan ping sieu on sport betting 250610 02 Among others, MCA vice-president Gan Ping Sieu () said Nazri's statements reeked of delusion, amnesia, inertia and arrogance.

"These four attributes were described by the prime minister last December, during the opening of the BN convention, as 'ailments' that BN leaders must get rid of in time for the 13th general election," Gan said in a statement today.

"It is such statements from a senior member in Umno that will alienate the Chinese voters, including MCA members, just as the community is starting to show signs of returning to the BN fold under the prime minister's leadership.

"I am worried that the timing of such arrogant remarks will affect BN's chances in the coming Sarawak polls, especially in Chinese seats where we can expect tough battles," added the deputy minister for youth and sports.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong also expressed deep disappointment with Nazri's remarks.

'Unfair and ridiculous'

"Nazri described MCA as a neglected wife, which is unfair and ridiculous. They are two completely different issues.

"Any cabinet decision is the collective decision approved by all component parties and all of them have to be responsible for the implementation of any policy. Shirking responsibility is against the spirit of 1Malaysia."

Describing Nazri's statement as unproductive, the deputy education minister stressed that BN should stop all bickering and focus on policies that benefit people in order to win back the people's support.

"Instead of self-flattering, he should spend time performing his duties. People are still waiting for him to resolve issues that affect the people's benefit," Wee said in a statement today.

NONE Gerakan Youth deputy chief Oh Tong Keong also joined in the criticism of Nazri for his outburst, calling him "arrogant" and "ignorant".

Oh ( right ) said he doubted whether Nazri understood the real situation of the other BN component parties.

"Don't forget that Nazri contested under BN ticket. Does he not need the support and cooperation of other component parties?

"As a representative of BN, Nazri's remarks show that he does not respect the local BN leaders (in his constituency). This is very disappointing," Oh said in a statement.
