Asri calls for massive protest against 'lewd politics'

Alan Goh: As a non-Malay and a Christian, I agree with the comments of former Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin. Lewd and gutter politics should be condemned in the country as it not only projects a poor image of Malaysia but sets a bad example for the younger generations.

Unfortunately, Asri, it looks like Malaysia is full of these politicians after 53 years of corrupted rule under Umno. Look at who are the chairmen of Risda and Felda, not forgetting the shameless MCA president.

Atan-Toyol: Well said, Asri. It is about time that an ulama says his piece to keep in check all these dirty politicians in our midst, masquerading as pious, saintly leaders. We can never expect the ‘super' mufti of Perak, Harussani Zakaria, to make this kind of statement because he is too deep in Umno's grips.

We have many ulama, but not many can tell the leaders how to behave.

PuteraMalaysia: Who was the non-politician but Umno mouthpiece who had an affair with a young girl while his wife lay paralysed in bed? Who was the chief minister who eloped to Thailand to secretly marry his second wife?

Who is the federal minister who was allegedly caught with a female artiste in a Port Dickson hotel? Which federal minister had an affair with someone else's wife and this eventually resulted in a broken marriage?

Which religious leader had an illicit affair and who now holds a prominent position in a very important government religious body? Which chief minister had an affair with his sister-in-law, who then allegedly gave birth to an illegitimate child?

Who is the son of the prominent politician who was implicated in the 2007 death of a beautiful Indian actress?

JBGUY: Asri, while I agree with your view that preying on another person's weakness which has no bearing on their political contribution to the rakyat, I am nevertheless appalled by your views on Indian Malaysians.

My respect for Asri would increase manifold if he were to apologise for his demeaning comments on Indians. Even the Prophet respected people of all faiths.

Rosmin Shahril: This guy is a hypocrite of the highest order. In a video , he was seen condemning the Indians and the Hindus. As a man of God, I don't think this character has any moral ground to preach and be heard. Wasalam.

David Dass: The former mufti is right. What kind of society are we? What kind of civilisation are we building? There must be a benchmark or base-level for what constitutes acceptable behaviour below which we do not go.

Our children read the newspapers and are influenced by what they read. What politicians say and do will influence many. Their actions will be perceived as the norm for us. Where are the statesmen?

Simon Lee 3ed5: Name them, Asri. Tell the truth and shame the devil. What are you afraid off?

Are there no God-fearing mufti, ulama or Islamic thinkers who would dare stand up against the tyranny, corruption and sins of Umnoputras? Or are they all under Umno's payroll?

Umno is the main cause of the ills of this nation especially the poor Malays. The corrupt are everywhere, living in luxury, going to Mecca garbed in pure white robes to throw stones at the devil, when they are the real devil.

And the very fact that the mufti remained silent and condone all the sins of Umno only perpetuate the crimes against the rakyat and against Allah. We are all blind to the wholesale corruption and countless injustices against the rakyat the last 53 years.

Ask Mahathir Mohamad, Mohd Khir Toyo, Zakaria Mat Deros, Tajudin Ramli, Rafidah Aziz, Halim Saad, Abdul Taib Mahmud, Rahim Thamby Chik, Daim Zainuddin, Muhammad Muhd Taib and the countless others in Umno.

Michael Angelo: Asri, why don't you organise it? Fix a date and I am sure there will be a strong showing of support.

Taib's rich daughter: Who are you kidding?

Mingxiang: Mr Chief Minister, now that you have fully explained your family's immense wealth, I feel it is so very unfair on the part of many Malaysians who accused you of blatant corruption.

Your daughter is such an enterprising woman and should be admired for her business acumen throughout the country, if not the whole world. No less, your son-in-law too is to be congratulated for his business sense in helping your family's commercial empire to grow beyond anyone's expectation. Wonderful.

Oh, by the way, I saw something wonderful too last night. During Earth Hour at around 9.15pm, a pink elephant flew by my balcony. What a wonderful sight it was. Sorry, I digress.

Once again, thank you Mr CM for clarifying how your family's immense wealth came about. Sarawakians must be proud of you. You had sacrificed your meagre minister's gratuity to put your daughter on the starting block in the business world.

Quigonbond: I find Abdul Taib Mahmud to be a very selfish man. If his daughter and son-in-law are so smart, he should have co-opted them into governing the state and let the money generated in the billions to be used to uplift the lives of all Sarawakians.

He just needs to look at Singapore for example where the PM's wife led the government investment arm to unprecedented heights.

Michael Ng 34f2: All the high-ranking politicians children seem to be very, very smart when it comes to business acumen. That's why they are very rich in their own way. This is how it is always explained.

You expect the rakyat to believe this? You think we are still suckers and so gullible?
