Sex video: A case of history repeating itself

Sex video probe: 'Don't let AG use police'

1wood: Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim is one gentleman with integrity to come out to reveal the ugliness of high office of the attorney-general (AG) and inspector-general of police (IGP) that has hurt Malaysia's image.

What Mat Zain has stated reflect on the authorities who cares only how to protect themselves irrespective of whatever outcomes may arise, with spiteful techniques.

Kingfisher: It is quite disconcerting to think that the current AG and an IGP (now former) could be accused "then" and in a continuing "present" sense of improper professional conduct by a very senior police officer (now former).

It must be quite troubling to the conscience of the accused even if they are not made liable for any professional default.

One is left with a bad feeling that there was/is something very brazen and unhealthy about the conduct of the AG and the former IGP and one is left wandering - are/were these people that powerful, and if yes, why and at what cost to the nation, never mind their individual conscience or otherwise.

Loyal Malaysian: Thank you, Mat Zain, for coming out to inform civil society again of the deceit and corrupt ways of this Parting Gale. But sadly, the IGP is another pawn of the Umnoputras. They shall continue with their devious ways until the rakyat manage to evict them from Putrajaya.

Swipenter: It is very appropriate for Mat Zain to point out the possibility of history repeating itself.

Anonymous_3da0: Whatever the result, the police and AG have had their respective reputations shot to pieces within such a short period of time just because they want to become running dogs of Umno in nullifying Anwar as a political force.

Surely that's not what they're supposed to do.

Docs: With regards to the sex video, I think the police are not sticking to their KPIs, which are as follows: Cases involving Umno figures, guilty or not - NFA, ‘Tutup kes secepat mungkin'.

Dayak dilemma in state polls

Doc: Yes, the Al Kitab factor, sinking Sarawak economy, lack of job prospects in Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family's plundering of Sarawak wealth, Umno's antics that irritate the Sarawakians and stronger mounting opposition are some the factors that will turn the Dayaks and the rest of the Sarawak bumis towards Pakatan.

But as in 2006 and the elections prior to that, the Sarawak people will turn to BN at the last crucial minute. The time-and-tested factor that will sway the Sarawakians to BN are the "goodies" offered by BN. For the poor people of Sarawak, the goodies will be a big thing and will better their lives in the short term hence it will be too good to refuse.

The more affluent city folk will vote Pakatan. And there you have it, my predication for Sarawak, a BN victory for Sarawak, although with a smaller majority, of course.

WikAdam: The Dayaks have been politically fragmented over the years. Now is the time for them to unite under one opposition party through which their voice and dissatisfaction can be clearly and loudly heard. That party should be Snap.

All the others in the opposition are not Sarawak-based and are unlikely to be sensitive and give a high priority to Dayak issues.

Anonymous_3f68: The natives must analyse the atrocities perpetrated by the BN government over the years and not just look at development of certain regions which any political party in power can deliver.

The power to corrupt and distort is part of Umno's legacy and way of life and that's how they have hoodwinked the poor folks of Sarawak for so long.

Dingy: The rural Dayak must be told that development needs money. Money used for development comes from taxpayers, not BN's own fund. Whoever rules will have money for development. If the federal government falls to Pakatan Rakyat, then Pakatan will have the fund for development.

In fact, under Pakatan, hopefully with less corruption, there will be more development for less money spent.

FatLOM: There is one group of opinion-swayer that this article didn't mention, and that is the teachers. They have a close relationship to the people where they are posted and in my experience, they used to be one of the pillars of support for the BN government in Sarawak as are the other civil servants.

If I read the sentiment right, coupled with the effect of the Al-Kitab issue, there is going to be a large swing to the opposition due to the impact of rising prices. This is more prevalent in urban and semi-urban areas, but I think an impact in the rural area will also be felt due to the close fraternity with this group.

HNL: It will make a very big different if the young and educated Dayaks and Malays who want change of government in Sarawak all volunteer to ‘balik kampong' during the campaign period until polling day and tell their immediate family members, relatives and other longhouse or kampong residents not to vote BN and explain all the reasons why they should not do so.

Fairplayer: If the Ibans and other Dayaks continue to vote in BN, they have no right to cry foul when their ancestral lands are later snatched from them. They deserved to lose everything to their new masters.

Dear Dayak friends, go inform and educate your folks about the need to kick out the wicked regime. Tell them, it is in kicking out these evil cheats that their bread-and-butter will be available all the days of their lives. Their lands will not be taken from them. Their bread-and-butter will be taken care of because their lands will see to their unending needs.

Assure them it is their rights to vote against a corrupted regime, for the sake of their children and grandchildren.

Boom: How many of us here have ever and actually talked at length with to the rural voters of the pros and cons of voting for BN or opposition? Simply condemning the Dayaks for supporting the BN is not fair at all.

Remember, there were BN seats won in the Chinese or Malay majority areas. It is this arrogant attitude of outsiders looking down on them which make the Dayaks not care for whom to vote. Why only preach your political ideals through this media? Go to the ground and do your campaign.

The question is, are the so-called sophisticated and financially wealthy urban voters in Miri, Sibu and Kuching better than the wretched, simple minded of the interior? Don't only talk. Go and talk to them.
