PKR Penang has suspended its former Bayan Baru division leader M Nyana Segaran and issued him a show-cause letter for allegedly planning to quit the party tomorrow.

penang anti isa forum 150908 m nyana segaran State PKR secretary Maktar Shapee said in a statement to the media that Nyana Segaran planned to announce his exit from the party at a cultural event in Penang tomorrow that BN leaders including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will attend.

Maktar said Nyana Segaran ( right ) had breached party discipline and that PKR disciplinary committee chairperson Tan Kee Kwong yesterday ordered the suspension of his membership.

"His membership is suspended with immediate effect, until a final decision is made by the party," said Maktar, who is Sungai Bakap assemblyperson.

Nyana Segaran, who joined PKR after the 2008 general election, raised eyebrows among his party members for organising an Indian Cultural Carnival, which will be held at the Penang International Sports Arena tomorrow.

Among other BN leaders expected to grace the event, which Nyana Segaran has declared will be non-political, is Gerakan chief and former Penang chief minister Koh Tsu Koon.

Speculation is rife among party members that this ex-Gerakan and ex-MIC leader would be jumping ship, along with several others from PKR Bayan Baru division, during the event.

 'BN enticing defectors'

NONE However Nyana Segaran has denied that he would be quitting PKR, adding that he was even not aware about a recent resignation of 200 members who are aligned with the Penang Hindu Priests Association.

Talk about Nyana Segaran leaving PKR started after Bayan Baru division chief Sim Tze Tsin ( left ) warned members that a former division leader was going around enticing members to join BN.

Sim had said that a "disgruntled" leader, who lost in the party's elections last year, would be "pulling his political stunt" during the 13th general election, which is not expected until 2013, but is highly speculated to be held this year.
