As the electoral battle for Sarawak enters the final lap, the state DAP is readying itself for a final onslaught by the BN.

State party head Wong Ho Leng said he has been reliably informed that BN is planning a "last-minute secret weapon" to sway voters its way right before Saturday when voters go to the polls.

NONE "I'm not worried about the last-minute BN campaign. I have received information - and I also have spies inside BN - that they are going to unveil a last-minute secret weapon too," he told DAP's daily press conference in Sibu this afternoon.

"There will be something in store from them in the next few days. I don't know what their surprise weapon will be.

"Maybe it's more allocations, maybe the government will recognise the Unified Examination Certifiate (UEC), or maybe they will even allow all Malaysians to use the word 'Allah'. We don't know but we know that the Chinese people won't buy into it.”

The UEC is a standardised examination for Chinese-medium independent schools in the country. Although many countries such as the US, UK and Australia recognise the certificate, the Malaysian government has yet to follow suit especially for entry to public universities.

Sarawak has the most number of independent Chinese schools, with 14 out of the 60 nationwide.

"We don't know, so we can't speculate (what the secret weapon may be). We might as well not fear (it)," said Wong who is defending the Bukit Assek seat.

‘Slap in face’ for PM, CM

Wong also challenged SUPP - the Chinese-based second-largest BN component party in Sarawak - to elicit Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s resignation date.

"SUPP must force Taib to disclose when (he will resign) and who the successor (will be). We want SUPP to tell us. They must force the CM to disclose (this)," he said.

azlan Last month, Taib observed his 30th year as chief minister and later announced that he would step down in "two or three years".

This contradicted the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Kuching, that Taib would step down after the state election.

Sarawak DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen said both Taib and Najib are "slapping one another in the face" by making contradictory statements.

"During election time, the top person in the state is supposed to be leading the campaign. Then PM came in and said he will go here and there. This is a slap on Taib's face.

"Then Taib 'slapped' Najib back. Najib tried to 'slap' harder but Taib 'slapped' him very hard under the table," said Chong dramatically, when met in Kuching today.
