Big shoes to fill

He also reminded Khalid that he had “big shoes to fill”.

In an immediate response, PKR vice-president N Surendren said Khalid's accension as deputy IGP was questionable.

Surendren said there were many really bad instances of abuse of power by the police in Selangor under Khalid, including the death of A Kugan in police custody and the fatal shooting of teenager Aminulrasyid Amzah.

“Khalid has never apologised or accepted blame for these two deaths. Khalid initially gave the ridiculous explanation that Kugan drank a glass of water and then collapsed and died. This, despite the horrendous injuries on his tortured body.

“In Aminulrasyid's case, Khalid suggested that the 14-year-old was a criminal and that he had tried reverse the car into policemen.

“This false allegation merely increased the sorrow and suffering of the Aminulrasyid family,” Surendren said, adding that public confidence in the police force have remained extremely low.
