Why threaten when you can quit now?

vox populi small thumbnail 'All this talk now about no Chinese representation in the government is not about the Chinese Malaysians. It is all about MCA.'

MCA leaders back Soi Lek's 'warning'

Hello: Why threaten to opt out of representation of the Chinese? Do it now, as MCA had seen the results of 2008 and they have been abandoned by the Chinese.

They were supposed to represent the Chinese and fight for their rights, but instead they became dumb lap dogs of Umno. Their guile have been seen through by the Chinese community and they don't have a hope of getting this support back - unless hell freezes over.

The Chinese have nothing to lose with the present uneven racist policies practised by BN, whether there is Chinese representation or not.

Louis: What has MCA done for the Chinese community in the last 50 years in government?

  • Number of Chinese schools did not increase, but decrease.
  • Number of Chinese in civil service is reduced drastically.
  • Number of Chinese seeking opportunities overseas kept increasing.

They left not because they love the country less, but because they were treated as second-class citizens at home. And all these years, MCA has been watching with folded arms.

Now, the only Chinese who support MCA are those big-time businessmen. An ordinary Chinese will not ever care whether MCA is extinct or reduced to dust. He would not shed a tear.

Dhammika: Now that MCA is generating a certain level of fear of no Chinese representation, we want MCA to list down its achievements on the issues that it has resolved in government.

Otherwise, zip your mouth and I can tell MCA now that they will be completely wiped out come the next general election.

Anonymous_8_CE: The Chinese cannot have more than 70% of the economy, most of the wealth and then believe that they can then choose to oppose the ruling government, and ask DAP to look after their interest sitting on the other side of the political fence.

This smacks of chauvinism. The DAP is laughing all the way to Parliament at the expense of PKR and PAS. Is it not clear in Sarawak?

The divide is getting clearer, and the Indians should also take note - in as much as we do not like racial politics, DAP/PKR/PAS have joined BN in pursuing this brand of politics. They cannot sit there and deny it.

James Dean: The Chinese Malaysian community have spoken many times through the ballot box that they do not want any communal political parties to represent them. Maybe the MCA people have a hearing problem.

You think, we, the Chinese community care if there is no Chinese minister? We don't give a damn. MCA can't influence government decision of any importance.

All this talk now about no Chinese representation in the government is not about the Chinese. It is all about MCA. It gives me great pleasure to see no MCA minister in the government.

4th Generation Pendatang: I think MCA should ask themselves whether Malaysians, be they Chinese or other right-thinking Malaysians of other races, actually bothers whether they champion Chinese "rights".

Malaysians just want a free and fair election process and MPs who work for their constituents rather than for themselves. So if you are a corrupt Chinese MP from MCA, yes, we rather not have you in government.

Baru reveals why PKR vied for 49 seats

Malaysiawatch4blogspot: PKR's strategy was weak and the implementation must have been weaker as Pakatan Rakyat does not have the resources to educate and convince all the rural voters at the same time. The only good outcome is that PKR has established a wide network of branches and it is up to the grassroots and aspiring candidates to start servicing the voters.

I suggest Pakatan should have at least two candidates in each parliamentary seat working on the ground and in the end, allow the local leaders to pick their own candidate so that less infighting occurs. You have 18 months to two years to do this.

Kenyalang: I have new found respect for Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian. He is honest and hardworking, and is not afraid to face up to mistakes. Only when you admit there are weaknesses can you grow and improve.

Habib RAK: Baru, congratulations on your victory. It's a victory for the people. The parliamentary elections for Sarawak is less than 22 months away. For all the weaknesses that have been identified, action must be taken from now to remedy it.

Seek volunteers (genuine ones) from now to help in PACA (polling and counting agents). Target university students and retirees from the peninsula to help out as volunteers. Target also the thousand of Sarawakians in Johor and Singapore to help. If planned well, you will find greater success.

Blackknight: YB Baru, this is a good starting point. We already see the unease in the BN fellows because a two-party system is beginning to take shape.

In the 2004 general election, PKR was almost wiped out, but in 2008, they had the most parliamentary seats. Although DAP did extremely well, I think PKR has the most potential because it is not ethnocentric and will be able to get the support of all the races in the future if its people are willing to examine their weaknesses and work hard like you.

Josephine: Baru, three seats may be a small beginning, but with your able leadership and commitment, I am sure you and your team will help to usher in a new dawn for Sarawak.

Things are not going to be the same for Sarawak, because for the past 50 years, Sarawak was but a name. But now, it has become a community of Malaysians whom I long to see set free from the clutches of a corrupt regime.

BN leaders heatedly lash out at '1Melayu 1Bumi '

Anonymous_4031: This ‘1Melayu 1Bumi' is very narrow, bigoted thinking, and it goes against the slogan 1Malaysia which the PM Najib Razak is trying very hard to promote.

The racists in our midst should be isolated and exposed by the PM if he truly believes in and advocates 1Malaysia. Unless he weeds out such racists and bigots, they will poison the minds of the people.

4th generation pendatang: Are BN leaders committing hara-kari ? The Melanaus of Sarawak are not Melayu as a significant portion of them are also Christians. They may be bumiputeras but they are definitely not Malay Malaysians as defined under our Constitution, as many of them do not practice Islam as a religion.

Malays represents only seven percent of Sarawak's population and any Melanau having access to this discussion should seriously re-look the implications of this latest call for a ‘1Melayu 1Bumi' agenda.

KSN: Let us be specific here. It is MCA, MIC and Gerakan leaders who are making comments. They may be in BN but they are not BN leaders. What is BN without Umno?

Has any Umno leader condemned Utusan Malaysia ? No. How can Umno do that to their propaganda, provocative, ‘ketuanan Melayu' arm? How come all these obscene statements which seriously undermine harmony and unity do not fall under the category of sedition?

How come no action is taken against Utusan and its editors, including revoking their printing and publication licence?

The reasons are obvious. Does anybody, especially Umno and Utusan care a tuppence about the so-called leaders of BN, minus Umno? So let us all not be under any illusion here on this and other similar issues.

Don't Play God: I have never believed in the seriousness of Najib's 1Malaysia, and this hypocrisy has been exposed by Utusan . How else does this paper get away with its racist poison and not draw flak from Umno?

If other media had promoted 1Chinese, 1Indian, etc, you can be sure Umno would have used the Internal Security Act on the writer. But in this case, there is total silence.
