Businessperson Chia Buang Hing today testified how after he was badly beaten, police officer Norzali Rosle threatened to plant a parang and drugs in his car if he refused to accede to the latter's demands.

"He said if I didn't say that my injuries were caused by a car crash and I was beaten by road bullies, he would plant a parang and drugs in my car.

"He said he will put me in prison for a long time and I won't be able to leave police custody," Chia told the court as he continued his testimony for the second day today at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.

Today was the third day into the trial of the five police personnel charged in relation to the assault of Chia.

The businessperson also related how after he was threatened by the officer, he was taken to the district police headquarters and brought to the narcotics division.

Norzali then asked him to pee into a specimen bottle but the badly injured Chia was unable to comply. The businessperson said he then saw Norzali enter the bathroom to emerge a bottle of urine.

"Then I heard him tell the others that I could not pee and he used his own pee instead. They were angry and dragged me down a staircase," Chia told the court further.

'I thought I was going to die'

Bloodied, weakened and limping as he was at the time of the incident, Chia then said he was taken to an open field in a police vehicle where one of the accused said that he was being taken to a place where they planned to kill him.

"I was in so much pain, and my chin was bleeding, that I felt like I was really going to die that moment," he related.

However, the police officers ended up taking him to the Sungai Buloh Hospital after various phone consultations with an unknown party.

Chia then told of how he was treated and admitted into the hospital for injuries that doctors described as "serious".

He also informed the court that he told doctors attending to him what the cops did to him.

Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadhli Nik Azlan, who is presiding over the trial, then adjourned the trial slightly after 5pm. The trial resumes tomorrow.

Stopped at roadblock

Chia, who is a framemaker by trade, alleged that he was beaten up by the cops after he was stopped at a roadblock at Damansara Mutiara, Petaling Jaya on Dec 18 last year.

Four of the police officers, Mohd Azwan Hassan, Norzali, Mohd Saifullah Osman and Alizul Hafiz Mohd Ghafar, face a joint charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to Chia.

Norzali also faces trial for two more charges under Section 211 of the Penal Code, for making a false charge of an offence against Chia, with the intention of injuring him.

He also stands accused of falsely accusing the framemaker of havings drugs and a parang on his person.

Another police officer, Mohadi Adam, was charged under Section 166 of the Penal Code for disobeying the law in order to cause harm to Chia.

All three cases are being tried together after the deputy public prosecutor in charge of the case, Amirah Mohd Yusof, applied for this as they involve the same witnesses and incident.
