'Christian conspiracy': Kudos to Dompok
'This is not the Malaysia we depict on our signboards and in the MAS and Petronas advertisements. We must become more than the sum total of our slogans.'
Dompok: Law allows for Christian PM
CHKS: Plantations Industries and Commodities Minister Bernard Dompok is right. Christians have always prayed for the well-being of the country, the king, prime minister and the cabinet, racial harmony, etc, every year.
In fact, the conference where the purported conspiracy took place is supposed to be a meeting to call on all Christian Malaysians to live out a strictly no bribe, no corruption life with the highest measure of marketplace ethical values.
In fact, all Malaysians regardless of race and religion should organise similar conferences to promote a no-bribe society.
Black Mamba: That's the way, Bernard Dompok. You are a native bumiputera and a Christian, and if you can't be sworn in as a prime minister of the country then why should Sabah coalition party prop up BN and let the federal government milk your oil fields?
There are two choices here, either you take your MP out of BN and join Pakatan Rakyat or stay as Independents. The other solution would be taking Sabah out of the federation if Sabah points of agreement in joining Semenanjung are not met, provided it isn't seditious.
Against the Wind: YB Dompok, I have the highest respect you for being so forthright and speaking from your heart (although you know that you might have to face the dire consequences sooner or later at the hands of Umno).
Yes, I fully agree that a national newspaper (owned by Umno) should not print and sensationalise something written by a blogger without verifying the facts and the source. I cannot agree with you more that this is the height of irresponsibility on the part of Utusan Malaysia .
Will the PM finally step in and give Utusan a fierce lashing? If PM truly loves the nation, he will have to do just that. As a true blue Malaysian, I beg you PM to intervene and stop the rot and save the nation. You will be our saviour.
Onyourtoes: The federal constitution said lots of things but also left out lots of things. Surely the constitution cannot foresee and anticipate everything. But if we have wisdom and fair play in our heart, making the constitution works is never a problem.
The problems we face today is greedy people, people with archaic mentality, are reading lots of things that are not in the constitution and ignoring things that are blatantly clear in the constitution.
David Dass: Dompok's statement brings a different dimension to the issue of a Christian prime minister or a Chinese or Indian prime minister.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself said that there might come a point in time when the Malays themselves decide that they want some outstanding non-Malay to lead the nation. Most of us may not live to see that day but surely it must be an aspiration for the nation that race will become irrelevant at some point in time.
Who would have believed that an African American (albeit half only) would become president of the United States. In the hysteria of the last few weeks over the paranoia caused by irresponsible bloggers and an even more irresponsible newspaper, all sight of aspiration and ideal was lost.
Every effort was made by those so-called champions of Islam to inflame and provoke. To what end? This cannot be 1Malaysia! This is not the Malaysia we depict on our signboards and in the MAS and Petronas advertisements. We must become more than the sum total of our slogans.
Saw Teik Lim: Most of the non-Malays have long accepted that this country's PM will be Malay and Muslim as a matter of reality and a realistic way of keeping the peace. All they asked for is a PM who has the cojones to slap these Perkasa and Pembela extremists down and put things right.
I say again, Najib with all his ‘1ness', cannot bring the true meaning of 1Malaysia if he is afraid to confront those whom he controls but yet destroys his 1mantra. The way this issue progresses, it would seem that Najib controls nothing and that is a shame.
Ttloo: Utusan blasting out against Christians for attempting to seize control of prime minister's post is a move to ensure that Umno will cling on to the post in the coalition of BN even when the majority of seats won are from Sabah and Sarawak, who are mainly Christians, to form the federal government.
BN coalition partners in Sabah and Sarawak may be demanding for a deputy PM's or even PM's post as they are the pillars of the BN's 'fixed deposit' in Putrajaya. The threat to 'frog' over to Pakatan is great should their demand failed.
Thus Umno, by accusing Christians and DAP, is sending a warning message to its non-Muslim coalition partners in BN, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, to stop demanding for the post should Umno failed miserably in the next general election. To Utusan, next chapter please.
Fairplayer: "As for the question of a Christian prime minister, what is wrong with that?" Dompok's words were the exact words I told my oldest son just a few days ago. Yes, what's wrong with a Christian being PM if he can do a better governing job?
In fact, I have also mentioned views similar to Dompok's in one of my comments the last few days. Perhaps it's time a God-fearing Christian (with no excess baggage in his personal life) from East Malaysia be given the role of PM after GE13. Just a thought...
Not Convinced: The Umno game plan is clear - spook the Malays in Peninsular Malaysia into backing the party for fear that a Christian from Sabah or Sarawak could be be prime minister.
Dev: Well done, Dompok. please tell your friends in Umno that, especially Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein. But wait, Perkasa may come up with a press statement/police report saying that Dompok is now the communist leader.
