The Sessions Court in Putrajaya fixed Sept 20 for the trial of the RM1.9 billion cheating case of former transport minister Chan Kong Choy involving the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman also fixed Aug 10 as another mention date for the case.

The trial is set for two weeks from Sept 20 to 30.

Azhaniz also directed the prosecution to supply the required documents to the defence before Aug 10.

He also extended Chan's bail of RM1 million with one surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Nordin Hassan informed the court that both the prosecution and the defence had agreed for the hearing date to be set in September and also a mention date in August.

One of Chan's lawyers Arthur Wang then told the court that they had submitted a letter on April 29 this year to the prosecution, requesting for certain documents but they had yet to receive the documents.

Chan, 55, in white shirt, blue trousers and black coat, arrived at the court at 2.13pm accompanied with his wife and daughter.

He pleaded not guilty on Feb 28 this year to three counts of deceiving former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi into approving Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) as the turnkey developer to carry out development of the transhipment hub project in the Pulau Indah Free Zone and renovation works at the PKFZ site between 2004 and 2006.

Chan is accused of committing the offence at the fourth floor of the main block at the former prime minister's office in Perdana Putra building here.

He faces a jail term of five years or a fine, or both on each of the three charges under Section 417 of the Penal Code, if convicted.
