In his testimony before a magistrate’s court in Petaling Jaya today, businessman Chia Buang Hing dismissed a police report lodged by Lance Corporal Norzali Rosle accusing him of transporting a parang and drugs in his car as untrue

“I did not bring a parang and drugs in my car... this is a false report,” Chia told the court.

He made the statement after the police report lodged by Norzali was read out to him by the court interpreter and he was walked through the facts in the report by deputy public prosecutor Amirah Mohd Yusof.

Chia admitted to being the driver of the yellow Waja that was stopped at a roadblock in Damansara on Dec 18 last year.

He also confirmed the presence of Norzali and three other accused at the roadblock, but refuted the police report that a parang and a quantity of pinkish powder, believed to be heroin, were found by the lance corporal after searching his car.

NONE He contended that none of the policemen searched his car and he did not see them find anything in the car. Nor has anyone ever showed him the parang or drugs he was accused of having in his car.

Chia ( left ), who is a framemaker by trade, also denied that he was aggressive and attacked any of the cops or tried to escape.

He said the exact opposite was true and it was the cops who were aggressive and attacked him after he refused to surrender his cash to them.

Chia then related how he was brought before a magistrate at the PJ courthouse and remanded for four days after being informed of the police report against him.

He told the court how he was then taken before an investigating officer (IO) from the police narcotics division, one Inspector Azzizudin, who quizzed him about the charges.

After his interview with the IO, Chia related how he was allowed to meet his wife and family members.

Chia said that he had informed the magistrate, his family members and Azzizudin that he was beaten by cops.

Second prosecution witness to testify

The businessman is the second prosecution witness to testify in the joint trial of five cops charged with causing him bodily harm.

Norzali, along with Mohd Azwan Hassan, Mohd Saifullah Osman and Alizul Hafiz Mohd Ghafar, face a joint charge of voluntarily causing hurt to the businessman, under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Norzali is also charged with two counts of making a false report with intent to cause harm under Section 211 of the Penal Code for his police report alleging that Chia had a parang and drugs in his car.

Yesterday, Chia had testified that the lance corporal had threatened to plant a parang and drugs on him if he refused to sign a report saying that his injuries were not inflicted by police officers but sustained in a car crash and an attack by road bullies.

Another police officer, Mohadi Adam, was charged under Section 166 of the Penal Code for disobeying the law in order to cause harm to Chia.

Norzali is represented by lawyer R Vijayan while Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar is lead defence counsel for the other four accused.

Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadhli Nik Azlan adjourned the trial at 5pm.

The trial resumes tomorrow, with Chia to verify the police report he lodged on Dec 23 last year, one day after his release from remand.
