Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd has revised its pre-qualification criteria for the elevated civil works, stations and depots work construction packages for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Sungai Buloh-Kajang project.

Interested contractors can now form joint ventures or consortiums among local companies to bid for the work contract packages.

However, the composition of the JV or consortium shall not exceed more than three companies.

Each contractor will only be allowed to submit a maximum of two applications of JV or consortiums, Prasarana said in a statement.

Although they are allowed to form up to two JV companies or consortiums, the contractors are only permitted to apply for different categories, it added.

"Prasarana has decided on a tender pre-qualification revision for the Open Category (PKK 'A'/CIDB G7) and Bumiputera Category (PKK 'A' Bumiputera/CIDB G7).

"Under new pre-qualification criteria, interested contractors can form a JV or consortium among local companies," the statement said.

It also said the notice on the pre-qualification revision would be displayed for eight days from May 20 and all applications are to be submitted before June 6.

The notice of revision would be advertised in all major newspapers and on Prasarana's website, www.prasarana.com.my, while a briefing for contractors has been fixed for May 24 in Kuala Lumpur. The venue will be announced later.

'Purely to make the bidding more competitive'

Meanwhile, the work contract under the elevated stations and depots work packages includes building works, station mechanical & electrical (M&E) works, traction and power sub-station building works, park & ride facilities, depot building drainage, depot equipment and landscape works.

The work contract under the elevated civil works packages include substructure works, elevated guideway structure and segmental girders.

Prasarana group managing director Shahril Mokhtar said the decision on the revision was based purely on the need to get more contractors to participate and ensure bidding for the KVMRT project is more competitive.

"Although we have revised the pre-qualification criteria, Prasarana will continue to ensure that only genuine, qualified and competent contractors are selected to bid for the work contract packages.

"We will review contractors based on their proven past track records and financial capacity," he added.

The statement said the planned construction period for the proposed Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line is from 2011 to 2016. When completed, it will provide a fast train service to 1.2 million people along the route.

Prasarana is a company established by the Ministry of Finance to facilitate, undertake and expedite public infrastructure projects approved by the government.
