The setting-up of the ‘Obedient Wives Club’ is not necessary, says a Muslim NGO leader, for education on how to make husbands happy can be conveyed personally.

However, a PAS Muslimat leader thinks otherwise and actually encouraged the formation of the club.

The club is being formed by Global Ikwan Sdn Bhd, a breakaway group of the banned Al-Arqam movement, and aims to teach wives obedience and making them submissive, so that their husbands will be happy.

Selangor Angkatan Belia Islam (Abim) chairperson Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said there was no necessity for such a club.

“I think it is crucial that education and knowledge are passed on. (Forming a club) is as though there is an agreement to come together to gather power,” he replied, laughing.

However, Zawawi refused to comment further until the objective of the club, to be officially formed later today, was made known.

NONE “It seems like it is going in the direction... like wanting to tell their husbands to take another wife,” he told Malaysiakini .

Meanwhile, PAS Muslimat vice-chief Mumtaz Md Nawi ( right ) gave a different take on the matter and encouraged Global Ikwan’s efforts.

“Obedience must be aligned to practices in Islam and practised religiously,” she said when met at the PAS muktamar yesterday.

“In the al-Quran, it does say that husbands must be loyal to their wives, like Sulaiman to Balqis, Yusuf to Zulaikha and Nabi Muhammad to his wives,” said Mumtaz, who is also a senator.

Global Ikwan said the club was being mooted to share with wives knowledge on how to satisfy their husbands.

“When husbands come home from work, wives do not welcome them with warm, alluring smiles and sexy dressing sprayed with beautiful fragrance to stimulate sexual arousal - but with stale saliva. This is the reality today.

“Much of the problems in society are caused by disobedient wives who do not bring joy and happiness to their husbands and do not serve their husbands well,” Global Ikwan’s spokesperson Maznah Taufik had said, before announcing the move to form the club.
