More calls have poured in for Malay rights pressure group Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali to be punished and charged under the Sedition Act for issuing racial threats over Bersih 2.0's rally in July.

State Gerakan chief Dr Teng Hock Nan said he was “disgusted” at Ibrahim’s statement telling the Chinese to stock up on food at home because “anything can happen” on July 9, the day of the rally.

NONE Teng ( left ), who is the party’s national vice-chief, said Ibrahim has “too often” been making racial statements that can cause “tension, uneasiness and stress” amongst the people.

“It is appropriate that the government should immediately take steps, especially during this politically challenging time, to stop any individual or organisation from making racist statements that stoke tension and affect the peace and harmony of the nation,” he said.

Teng was responding to the Pasir Mas MP’s remarks that Perkasa would hold a demonstration to counter the planned Berish 2.0 street rally next month.

During the announcement, Ibrahim had called on the Chinese to stock up on food “as anything can happen”.

His remarks had caused an uproar, with the Bar Council calling for Ibrahim to be dealt with under the Sedition Act.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin joined in the fray to urge the authorities to take action against Ibrahim for making the threat as he deemed it “racist, seditious and dangerous”.

‘Younger generation on the right track’

Meanwhile, Teng lauded Khairy for coming out boldly and in no uncertain terms to protest against Ibrahim’s racist remarks.

“As Barisan Nasional Youth chief and as Umno Youth chief, Khairy represents the younger generation who are against any form of extremism," he said.

“The younger generation of the BN and Umno is moving on the right track,” he added.

Teng urged all Malaysians to support Prime Minister Najib Razak’s approach of moderation as the way forward and for the nation and the people to continue to progress.

Which is why, he said, the government should take stern action against irresponsible leaders and “nip the problem in the bud” before it is too late.
