A former PKR stalwart today challenged opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to give evidence to prove he is not involved in a string of sex scandals if he intends to claim mileage from the upcoming Bersih 2.0 rally next month.
N Gobalakrishnan (Independent- Padang Serai) (

), who was a long-time Anwar supporter until he quit the party late last year, said it is only fair for the former deputy prime minister to clear his name before taking part in the rally for electoral reform.
“... I challenge Anwar Ibrahim to do two things before attending or getting involved in the Bersih gathering; they are to give his DNA sample, and to come forward and show his Rolex ( sic ) watch,” he said, reading out a statement during a press conference in the Parliament lobby. (The watch in question is said to be an Omega watch.)
Anwar is currently going through his second sodomy trial, while also facing a sex video scandal in which he is alleged to be the man caught on video having sex with a prostitute.
The PKR de facto chief has so far successfully denied attempts by the prosecution to acquire a fresh DNA sample from him in his sodomy trial.
He, however, has been evasive on the existence of an Omega watch said to be his, which allegedly was taken from him by the woman in his purported sex video.
Gobalakrisnan, who claims to have been Anwar’s staunch supporter over the past 12 years, stressed that the former must cleanse ( membersihkan ) his name before taking part in Bersih, which means clean in Malay.
He claimed that the PKR chief is desperately trying to divert public attention from his scandals by focussing on the Bersih rally, which Gobalakrisnan described as Anwar’s “political rhetoric” to confuse the people.
“Anwar Ibrahim needs chaos to create a wave of hatred towards the government to make sure his political ambitions are not lost in the wake of the 1Malaysia concept. He is now using NGOs and the rakyat to achieve his individualistic goals.
“I believe that while Anwar Ibrahim strives to tell the rakyat of our allegedly unfair elections system, the rakyat also have a right to know the whole truth about Anwar Ibrahim’s true identity.
“Without doing the two things I mentioned, Anwar Ibrahim should be ashamed of taking part in the Bersih rally when he himself does not have the courage to clear his own name. This automatically proves that Anwar is a hypocrite,” Gobalakrisnan said.
