Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today said that the rakyat will have to decide whether the person in the sex video produced in court today is opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

“This is something on which the rakyat will have to make a judgment.

“The most important thing is to find the authenticity and truth. We leave it to the rakyat to determine,” he said after chairing the BN supreme council meeting tonight in Kuala Lumpur.

Although the BN chairperson chose not to rub salt into the wound of Anwar, he pointed out that two foreign experts had verified the authenticity of the video.

Shafee Abdullah, the counsel for Rahim Thamby Chik, one of the Datuk T trio, had said that according to the June 4 report by professors Hany Farid and Lorenzo Torresani from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, there is a 99.99 percent match of the male in the video clip to a known photo of Anwar based on facial recognition analysis.

Earlier today, the three individuals behind the sex tape which featured a man resembling opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim were charged in Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today. They pleaded guilty and were slapped with a fine of up to RM3,000.

Asked on Anwar's accusation that he had met Rahim yesterday at Parliament, Najib denied it vehemently.

“No, he can make any accusation. My men in my office said Rahim did not come to see me.

“I did not meet Rahim, that is a lie,” he said.

Najib also defended Umno Youth’s decision to call a simultaneous rally on July 9 to counter the rally of election watchdog Bersih 2.0.

“All of them have the right. We have laws in our country and everyone has rights in the country. If Bersih has the right (to call a rally), Umno Youth also has the right to do so.”

However, when further pressed by reporters while leaving the meeting room, Najib said no one is above the law including Umno Youth.
