The Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia, better known as Huazong, today asked all those planning to hold illegal gatherings on July 9 to give up the intention.

Its president Pheng Yin Huah said they should cancel the planned gatherings so as to prevent undesirable elements from taking advantage of the situation to disrupt public order.

"Although the constitution gives people the right to assemble, we do not want illegal gatherings to turn into arenas of confrontation and lead to undesirable events.

"The organisers should consider other peaceful means to submit their request or express their views, such as holding a gathering in a stadium instead of staging a street demonstration," he told Bernama.

Pheng said that Huazong, which was the parent body for more than 3,000 Chinese associations and organisations in the country, feared that the illegal gatherings planned by three groups for July 9 would jeopardise business and could lead to chaos.

A chaotic situation would undermine the confidence of foreign investors and adversely affect tourism, he added.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP), set up by several key members of the outlawed Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), has expressed objection to the July 9 rally, saying it will not benefit the people.

potential non pkr candidates for bukit selambau by-election 110209 r s thanenthiran hindraf national coordinator President RS Thanenthiran said today the planned street demonstration purportedly to demand free and fair elections went contrary to the wishes of the majority of the people.

The group planning the illegal gathering had been manipulated by certain quarters to promote their own political agenda and not champion the people's rights as claimed, he said in a statement.

Thanenthiran said the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had proven that the people were enjoying rapid development since he took over the administration of the country.

NONE "Elections in Malaysia are conducted in a fair manner, and this is evident from the number of opposition elected representatives we have now in Parliament and the state legislative assemblies," he said.

Thanenthiran said his party would lodge a police report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here at 11am tomorrow and simultaneously in every state nationwide.

He said the party wanted to prevent the people from being subjected to instigation that would result in a negative impact on the nation's rapid development.

MMSP, which is Barisan Nasional friendly, was set up on May 11, 2009, and launched by Najib ( above ) on Oct 10 of the same year.
