Najib laughs as KL sheds tears

your say 'How can a PM of a country poke fun at someone who was seriously injured? Maybe he has never been hit by tear gas before.'

Thousands throng 'Bersih 3.0' ceramah in Penang

AnonymousA: My gratitude again to those who took part in the Bersih rally. When I saw ordinary citizens jumping off the high fence to escape from the police, my heart ached.

I was screaming silently - do not do that in the future, just vote in the coming 13 th general election, go tell all our neighbours and our relatives and friends to vote for change.

To those who risked their lives to take part in the Bersih rally, you guys/gals, young and old, are my heroes.

Tan Cheng Leong: I never felt as united as a Malaysian before this. Bersih is actually reunited all our races again. I could see Malaysians helping one another during the police attack. I cannot accept the fact that the police were attacking their own citizen.

After last night news, I realised that PM Najib Razak do not have a sense of humour - he was trying so hard to be funny and ended up looking like a clown.

How can a PM of a country poke fun of someone who was seriously injured? Maybe he has never been hit by tear gas before. He didn't even pay any respect to the late Baharuddin Ahmad, regardless who caused his death.

I'm so ashamed to have a PM like him, but I'm proud to have many great leaders who are fighting for a better Malaysia.

Disgusted: See how peaceful this rally was. In view of this, Najib, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and inspector-general of police Ismail Omar and their subservient press are rapidly losing all credibility.

It is for the whole world to see in the videos and pictures recorded by the rakyat and foreign press and yet they can lie blatantly without bating an eye.

The winds of change and true democracy are blowing. Our neighbours in this region - Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore - have chosen parliamentary democracy as their model of governance, and in the Middle East, we have seen the stunning fall of some autocracies, and those precariously holding on will be soon ousted.

In Malaysia, we are just seeing the beginning of the birth pangs of a new nation devoid of autocratic rule by an oligarchy called Umno.

Nirvana: I fully support Bersih 2.0 and its eight-point demands and the right to protest which is enshrined in our constitution. However, I wish the opposition leaders handle their involvement in Bersih 2.0 more delicately.

They need to constantly remind themselves and the people that they are participating in Bersih activities as ordinary citizens, just like you and me, and not as the opposition leaders.

If they find it difficult to separate themselves from their role as their party leaders during the Bersih activities, then it's better that they stay at home but make their stand known, which is that they endorse it fully but do not want it to be seen as hijacking the movement.

I am sure their supporters and the public at large will understand and respect them more for it.

FellowMalaysian: Never have there been in the history of the country where the rakyat, irrespective of race, culture, creed or ethnicity, has turned out in such huge numbers in the streets coming together with one common aim.

The purpose is to convey a strong message to Najib and his government that despite his claim of success and glory over his achievements, the majority of the people still remain skeptical and unhappy with his government. He has not answered serious allegations that have been thrown at the government.

Last Saturday, the focus was to draw attention and calling on the Election Commission to address Bersih's complaint. And look at the brutality that Najib has caused the public to suffer as a result of his senseless hope of holding onto the PM's seat.

Mirror on the Wall: The Pakatan Rakyat leaders are magnanimous in their comments about the police, even forgiving. And they have honoured Baharuddin with a minute of silence, a man who will never be forgotten.

Now contrast this with the actions and words of the other side. Need anything more be said?

'Tear gas gun aimed directly at Anwar'

NuckinFuts: I was shaking my head in disgust after watching the video of the prime minister making fun of Anwar Ibrahim (and indirectly at everyone who were brutalised by the police). He was insinuating that Anwar was over-reacting to the assault.

Let me tell you something about over-reacting Najib: "Baru sikit saje rakyat minta dari kerajaan... untuk pastikan pilihanraya lebih Bersih... Dahi Najib dah kerut... macam nak kena belasah! Hantar polis dan FRU untuk menindas perarakan rakyat yang aman dan damai!"

A true leader of Malaysia that many Malaysians wish for would actually visit Anwar and his injured bodyguard in the hospital to make sure they are okay. A true leader of Malaysia would not be mocking people who are down.

For years, BN has been shoving the ‘bersih, cekap dan amanah' slogan down our throats. When the rakyat really wants ‘bersih, cekap dan amanah walaupun sikit saje', what did you do? Clamp down on our rights like you have a lot of ‘kotor' to hide. Tak tahu malu!

Densemy: I'm impressed. Going by the government's figures, it means they arrested more than 25 percent the demonstrators. Isn't that a rather heavy-handed way of dealing with a peaceful demonstration?

It seems the police need to go back to school and learn some basic arithmetic.

Joker: The government claimed only 5,000 participated in the Bersih rally. Police said they arrested 1,667. So only 3,333 were left to march.

From the photos, anyone who has eyes can clearly see that there were more than 3,000 people. In fact, it is clear that there is more than 5,000 people at each of the larger congregations of people.
