There was no element of suicide, nor homicide, in the death of Customs assistant director Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamed, a Bukit Aman crime scene investigator testified today in the inquest into Sarbaini’s death.

NONE Deputy superintendent Sharul Othman of Bukit Aman’s forensic unit told coroner Aizatul Akmar Maharani that Sarbaini had tried to leave the MACC building through a window on the third floor pantry, and accidentally fell to his death.

"There was no sign of struggle in the pantry and on Sarbaini's body," Sharul said.

The investigator said if there was a struggle, more shoe marks and finger prints would be found in the pantry. Parts of the deceased’s clothes, such as buttons, would have been torn off, he added in response to questions from MACC's lawyer Mohamad Shafee Abdullah.

NONE Sharul said Sarbaini tried to leave the MACC office quietly and slowly, judging from the shoe and scratch marks outside, at the window ledge and on the wall outside the building.

He said he agreed with the theory that looking out from the pantry, one was likely to misjudge the distance between the pantry and the nearby roof due to an optical illusion.

Sharul led his team of five to investigate Sarbaini's death the day after the officer was found dead.

However, he could not offer a reason for the deceased trying to leave the building through pantry window, when Sarbaini was said to have been treated as a "guest" the day he returned to the MACC office, supposedly to change a statement he had made earlier.
