The gov't must now apologise to PSM 6

your say 'It should now apologise to the PSM 6 and their families for the grief they have suffered since July 2. Nothing less than that would be acceptable.'

PSM 6 released after 28 days in detention

Malaysian Born: I congratulate the IGP (police chief), and whoever involved in the decision to arrest the PSM 6, for finally allowing common sense and decency to prevail and release them.

It was a heavy burden for the government to carry as it had stripped all those involved of all credibility and respect. While there will be a painfully expensive price to pay for this singular act of incredible incompetence, it has at least not been compounded with anything irreversible.

The embarrassment is over, the heros are home and there is hope for the future.

DannyLoHH: Best news of the week! Finally, reason prevailed? Anyhow, I expressed my gratitude to the home minister and the police for releasing them.

No matter what is the motive behind their release, it is still a kind gesture on the part of the police and home minister. So, thank you.

This also shows that the EO (Emergency Ordianance) should be repealed - this law is draconian, inhumane, despicable and easily abused.

Kgen: DannyLoHH, please don't thank the police and the home minister. If the police throw your son into jail for no reason and then decide to release him after one month, would you thank them?

Bertrand Russell: Finally after 28 days, the prayers of the people have been answered. But the damage has been done and come GE13, the consequences are going to be bad for BN.

I hope Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein will prove he is a chip of the old block by apologising to the PSM6.

Little Han2: Hishammuddin and the IGP should apologise to these PSM 6 and their families for wrongly detaining them for 28 days on trumped-up charges of waging war against the king and for resurrecting communism.

This is a travesty of law and gross abuse of power by both Hishammuddin and the IGP.

Quigonbond: Najib, it's too late to stuff the genie back into the bottle. When you went overboard, your facade as a moderate leader is damaged.

Now that you backtrack, that's a show of weakness, another flip-flop that is becoming synonymous with your administration. Malaysia is in need of humane, smart and decisive leadership, which you offer none.

You will pay the price in the coming general elections. Hisham too.

AnakMalaysia: Mr PM, the citizens of this country are smart and clever. We can think and differentiate between good and evil, and we should not be lied to or cheated at all times.

You should be proud that your countrymen are good and responsible lots who care much for the country. That is why we fight, and make our voices heard whenever we think there is something wrong.

Nik V: This is a victory of good over evil. Indeed, the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) leaders weren't doing PSM a favour nor were they intimidated by the opposition into releasing the PSM 6.

They, on behalf of their political masters, had to consider the ramifications and how negative an effect this would have had on the people's opinion of BN if the good doctor died and became a martyr and symbol of the rakyat's fight for a better Malaysia.

This was only damage control and not true submission by the leadership of PDRM and BN to the wishes of the rakyat. Malaysia is in need of new leadership in the government and PDRM. We truly hope that there are some good officers within PDRM ready to stop the rot.

Michael Angelo: MIC chief G Palanivel and deputy chief Dr S Subramaniam will claim at the MIC AGM this weekend that they were the ones who got the PSM 6 released by advising PM Najib Razak to do so. The only problem is nobody will believe that.

Kee Thuan Chye: I'm so happy, even though this was expected - after the MIC president came out yesterday to call for their release. It was all part of a ploy. He knew the release was coming so by saying it, the MIC looks good. It can claim that the government listens to the MIC. This way, they might get to keep the Indian votes.

If, on the other hand, Najib had kept the PSM 6 longer in detention, the Indians vote would be surely lost. There's nothing altruistic on the government's part. In the first place, it should not have put the six under EO. It had nothing really to charge them with.

It should now apologise to the PSM 6 and their families for the grief they have suffered since July 2. Nothing less than that would be acceptable.

Pants on Fire: Voters, please remember this big ‘boo boo' BN has made. MIC, don't jump in and claim credit. Were you there at the candlelight vigil?

Ruben: It is really great news for Malaysians. In the first place, they should have never been detained for that long.

Also, I hope we don't get in our mainstream media that this was because of MIC or Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin that they were released. They were released because the government knew that the rakyat sentiments were going stronger and stronger against the detention of the PSM 6.

Onyourtoes: BN is working only on Malay and Indian votes. They have abandoned the Chinese. So when MIC said release the EO 6, the government listened.

One day after hunger strike and the six were released. Police, you could have gained lots of goodwill if they were released yesterday or the day before. Why are you always shooting your own foot?

Retnam: Sue the police for wrongful detention. Minimum RM100 million. Each.

Mangodurian: What happened to unlawful detention or acting in bad faith, or even just plain against natural justice? This is awful. If one is to follow this law, then we are doomed to be subject to the whims and fancies of an unjust ruling government.

I fail to understand how we have laws that allow a person to be jailed first, and then have the charge to be decided later, or even changed many times during the course of the detention. What happened to 'innocent until proven guilty' and ‘burden of proof' on the part of the prosecution?

JBGUY: Right has triumphed over might. The mighty BN government was brought to its knees by these courageous PSM 6 and the brave people who fought for their release. Bravo to these heroes and shame on the BN and PDRM for abusing their power.

Ferdtan: Indeed it is a happy day for all Malaysians. It is not the end of the journey for them - I hope it is the beginning of the long road in the struggle for better Malaysia.

Welcome home.
