They failed with race, now they're using religion
'The Jais controversy has been the closest thing so far in achieving what Umno has not been able to do in the last two decades or so - uniting the Malays.'
DUMC 12 about ready to go public
Born In Malaysia: When the attempt to divide and rule along racial lines failed, they now try to divide and rule along Muslim and non-Muslim lines.
The country will only survive if the rakyat have faith and understanding among one another, and want to live harmoniously and peacefully together. We should not allow the politicians to divide and rule us on whatever basis again.
Paul Warren: This has been the closest so far in achieving what Umno has not been able to do in the last two decades or so - uniting the Malays. The May 13 bogey was stretched for as long as it lasted.
With Bersih 1.0 and the death of that bogey, they went on a Chinese-bashing spree, a Singapore-bashing spree and, of course, the demolition of Hindu temples, too. Quietly, they started, in the meantime, with the Christians.
First, there was the matter of ‘Allah'. Then the proselytisation issue. They invaded and desecrated the holiest sacraments with no rebuttal from the Christians. Then they accused Christians of all sorts of things. And now, of course, this.
A video featuring a Muslim allegedly denouncing Islam and in favour of Christianity, whether a hoax or not, is enough to incite.
But if these 12 Muslims found at the Harapan Komuniti event were to openly rebut the accusation of Jais and Umno, they would start all over again with some other issues.
Lover boy: Najib Razak went to St John Institution and he is now the prime minister of Malaysia.
The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) doesn't need to go far - just check those in Umno who went to Christian mission schools. Go raid their houses, they may find a crucifix, a rosary, or worst still, and an illegal Bible.
Siapa Raja: Christianity just like Islam is a religion that needs no human being to protect. Praying to God, worshipping God and the Almighty is something that is very personal to any individual.
Do we really need an institution like Jais to act like a watchdog going around hounding and pouncing on every Muslim all the time in the name of protecting the religion? Come on, those 12 Muslims who were there are all grown-up people and I am sure that they knew the purpose of their presence there.
This is just another political ploy with which to hammer the ruling PKR government in Selangor. Perhaps the 12 Muslims need to do sumpah laknat to prove their innocence?
Alan Goh: Ten people can pull the horse to the watering hole but none can make it drink if the horse does not want to.
If the 12 Muslims who attended the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) dinner have strong faith in their Allah, no one can make them change their faith.
Dr Hasan Ali and Jais, you can try talking to me about your Muslim faith and until the sun sets in the East, I will still remain a humble, God-fearing Catholic.
Be a good, God-fearing Muslim like the former mufti of Perlis, Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin. To 12 Muslims who attended the DUMC dinner, please have the courage to come out into the open to say your piece if you have been wronged.
Fair Play: Terence Netto, your article suggested that the 12 Muslims who attended the functions are those who have strong mental strength, the right frame of mind and belief in their own religion to enable them to interact with Malaysians of other faiths.
That would be the 'ideal' situation in a multi-racial country like ours where Malaysians see one another as truly Malaysians without suspicion, prejudice or fear.
It is akin to all Malaysians taking a journey by sea. If the ship sinks, we will all drown. Sadly, those who are entrusted with this important task to ensure that the ship does not sink are not capable of thinking in that direction, much less providing the required leadership to move our nation forward.
After more than 50 years of independence, as a nation, we are more divided and suspicious of one another, courtesy of the politicians and those entrusted to promote harmony among the various communities. How sad indeed.
Swipenter: If Jais has solid and irrefutable evidence of proselytising of Muslims by DUMC, they would have gone after the latter with a sledgehammer from day one instead of pussyfooting around with the issue.
They cannot wait to justify Christian bashing since the days when they try to ban Christians from using the ‘Allah' controversy. The DUMC 12 must come out to tell their side of the story. Just tell the truth, nothing but the truth.
Anonymous: I urge all the religious zealots out there to take a look at this fiasco. If not handled properly, it could cause religious strife amongst the various believers.
I totally agree that the Christians should not go overboard their so-called "spreading the good news" to others. It may be "good news" to you Christians, but not to others.
I have personally came across Christians pursuing students, sick people at death bed trying to convert them into accepting a religion that was preached by a man called Jesus by promising these people that they will go to heaven.
I don't condone what Jais did, but I think there was some truth to it. To my Christians followers, practice your religion as much as you want, but don't proselytise others. Peace be to all - live well and be happy.
Argonist: Please stop accusing all Christians of preaching to non-Christians and other Christians or tempting the poor by materialistic ways to convert.
Hindus, Buddhists or devotees of other religions should ensure that they preach well and keep their believers devout and in good knowledge of their beliefs.
In the end, I as an individual will choose what to believe or whether to change my belief. If I don't mind to change my belief for some morsels of food (or money), whose fault (if that is one) is that? And again, who are we to judge such people?
