Najib, wife to argue against conspiracy theory

Dhammika: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan is just an ordinary citizen. How then, PM Najib Razak, then holding a high government position as deputy prime minister, accepted the request to see him?

Even if Saiful had reason to meet Najib as a victim of sodomy, it would be difficult for him to overcome the many protocols needed to eventually meet with Najib.

The rakyat want both Najib and Rosmah to take the stand - no two ways about that.

Mirror On The Wall: So uncool, Mr PM Najib Razak. You say one thing but do another. Just go to court and show that ‘you da man', man.

Proarte: Najib tells Saiful to go to the police. Whatever for? We need to find out.

Najib has to come to court to explain. Was Saiful applying for a scholarship to join the police force or was it related to his complaint to Najib that he was a victim of sodomy?

If a rape victim had been advised to make a police report about the repeated abuse, one would be hard pressed to explain why the rape victim would go to the rapist to be raped again.

Only two conclusions can be made. It was consensual sex and part of a police conspiracy to frame Anwar. In this scenario, it could not be deemed to be rape and hence the charges are wrong.

On that account alone, any conviction would be unsafe and hence Anwar should be acquitted. The other conclusion is that this is a high-level conspiracy involving Najib and that sodomy did not take place at all.

Either way Anwar must be acquitted.

Anonymous: Anwar commits these criminal acts wantonly because he believes he can always spin the accusations as political conspiracies. It is time for Malaysians to open their eyes and see an immoral person as an immoral person.

Disbeliever: If Najib has nothing to hide, then testify in court instead of filing an affidavit. As much as I would like to believe that Najib is clean, the 'evidence' says otherwise.

Why would the PM grant an 'audience' to Saiful? By meeting with Saiful, the people will ask, "Why did the PM meet with Saiful?', 'What sinister plot was being hatched?', 'Why meet Saiful who is a nobody?', etc.

Perhaps the PM is concerned for Saiful as a citizen of Malaysia but then again why meet him in private and under hush-hush conditions if there is nothing sinister about the whole thing?

I also believe that ordinary members of society will never be able to have a personal audience with the PM in private. The only opportunity would be at meet-the-rakyat sessions during the PM's walkabouts or at official functions and Hari Raya Open House.

Thus, it is difficult for the rakyat to believe the PM's claim that he has nothing to do with this sodomy case.

Gen2indian: Judges are educated free of charge by the government, appointed by the government and their salary and promotions vetted and decided by the government. And we expect the judiciary to be independent?

Paul Warren: I'm sure that Najib and Rosmah Mansor will win their applications. The court has no choice. You see how much confidence I have in the Malaysian bench?

Why Najib, Rosmah must testify: Anwar

Ah Boss: Every year, we have students with the maximum number of As failing to get Public Service Department scholarships, and there is always a hoo-hah about it in the newspapers.

Now we have a confirmed dropout who could easily get an appointment to see the very busy, jet-trotting PM to discuss the possibility of a scholarship for him?

The PM denied the meeting, but later backtracked and confirmed that he did meet the university dropout. It was then reported that PM would testify if subpoenaed. Now he backtracks again.

What sort of conclusion should the public make about the PM, who has not even got his post endorsed at a general election?

Louis: I remember reading Najib's statement that he will attend the court case if subpoenaed. Now, why is he fighting hard to avoid going to the court?

Definitely opposition leader Anwar needs both Najib and his wife to help him in his defence. Najib, show that you are a PM for all Malaysians, including Anwar.

If I am right, Singapore's former PM Lee Kuan Yew and his son Hsien Loong, the current PM, had testified in court cases before. Show that you are equal in stature to both of them.

Ben-ghazi: Najib and Rosmah, just do your public duty and be good exemplary 'cool' citizens by becoming witnesses to this case. You will be respected by the rakyat more, and with good luck, Najib will get more votes for the BN. Isn't that what you want to do since you want to 'defend' Putrajaya at 'all costs'?

This is the time to prove to the rakyat that you are a 'true pahlawan keturunan Bugis'. What is there to be afraid if you have not done anything illegal? Only the guilty ones will be afraid to face the 'music'.

Ferdtan: For ordinary people like us, when we are subpoenaed to appear in court, we do our duty as a loyal citizen to attend the court without fail. We don't complain, nor try to avoid our duty as we are proud that we are able to perform our duty as required of us.

But what we don't understand is that a prime minister, the number one man in Malaysia - a leader who is governing 27 million Malaysians - refuses to do his duty when subpoenaed to appear in court.

This is not a good example to set by a leader for the fellow Malaysians. In future, can we shirked our duties in not attending as witnesses when required, by following the irresponsible example by our PM? Where is the leadership by example?

Mirror on the Wall: You meet the PM for a scholarship. And after that you lodged a police report that you had been sodomised by the PM's arch rival.

Of course, the man in the street will never believe that this was a coincidence. However, the courts are another matter.
