The DAP is seeking a suspension of parliamentary business for an urgent debate on investigations being conducted  by three foreign governments against Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

NONE "We submitted a notice to the speaker (this morning). He will decide whether or not to allow us to debate this after Question Time tomorrow," Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chien Jen ( right ) said.

The move follows media reports that the authorities in Switzerland , Australia and Germany have launched investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering by Taib and his family.

At a press conference in the Parliament lobby, Chong pointed out that these were active investigations that should be a matter of concern to the nation.

"He is the first chief minister of a state in Malaysia who is the (subject) of an investigation by foreign authorities," he said, noting that the investigations amounted to Malaysia’s image being tainted.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has also opened a file on Taib, after reports were lodged.

"Up to now, we have yet to hear any outcome (from MACC,” Chong said.
