EC admits 40,000 names in electoral roll 'doubtful'

Lexicon: Resign, Election Commission chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, and take your deputy with you. You are an abject failure in your job. 40,000 is the tip of the iceberg and you're trying to crash Malaysian democracy like the Titanic.

Onyourtoes: 40,000 only? I don't think so. I think the number is much higher than this. What do you mean by names whose authenticity have not been established?

I am sure you have not included in these names those who were granted citizenship and blue ICs dubiously, but have now become blueblood citizens and bumiputeras.

By the way, I also hope the 40,000 you have included in the list as doubtful are not those Chinese and Indians who have been staying here for the last 50 years but now their status, identities and authenticity are in doubt.

Zz2XX: I think the Election Commission (EC) has got to go back to the Stone Age and keep its records on stones. Perhaps then we can all see an error-free electoral roll. The EC has been taking care of the electoral roll for more than half-a-century and still cannot get it right.

RR: The irony is that Indians and Chinese who have been born and bred here for generations face extremely strict rules to obtain MyKad, with such standard comments from the NRD as no birth certificates, mixed parentage, etc, as grounds for rejection.

NONE But these folk, because of Muslim names, can be become citizens overnight with such ease.

I have known Indians walking in and out of NRD for 50 years without any success. Even with MCA, Gerakan and MIC pressure on NRD, there are still many Indians and Chinese born here but not given MyKad.

This is atrocious when the Home Ministry says citizenship is not a matter of right. All those giving easy citizenship to immigrants overnight should be charged with treason, immediately.

Alan Goh: The best part is that these few busloads of foreigners comprising Indonesians, Bangladeshis and Cambodians are there attending courses. What are these courses - how to sweep road debris or collect domestic household rubbish?

By the next generation, their bumiputera status will qualify them to be prime minister or menteri besar. while those fifth generation Chinese and Indians will still be pendatang .

On the slightest provocation, sadly, these pendatang are told to go back to China or India, even by schoolteachers.

Such is the sad state of a once proud and peaceful country that we knew and loved. Vote for change. Just do it.

Wait out your term, Mahathir advises Najib

Kit P: I absolutely agree that the four Pakatan Rakyat state governments should not dissolve their state legislatures in line with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's snap general election.

There is actually no pressing national imperative to call the general election long before it is due. We know it's personally essential for Najib to get the two-thirds majority win under his belt, otherwise he's toast. But that's his problem, not Malaysia's.

Going to polls these days is not merely about technicalities, it is about the right policies, making the government look good and seen to be good, overcoming corruption in all areas, MACC doing the job well, the police being fair, the teachers manipulated to vote for the government, Biro Tata Negara abolished, the justice system being fair, the riches of the nation not going to cronies and scholarships given on merit and not on race.

These are the things the rakyat is looking for. So Najib, it is your call.

SMC77: The best time for Najib to call for the general election (GE) is this year. Global economic outlook is not optimistic in 2012 and Malaysia is unlikely to register a higher growth than in 2011. I hope the GE will be delayed further to end 2012 or early 2013 as Pakatan Rakyat will be stronger by then.

FellowMalaysian: Mahathir advising Najib to delay holding the GE till the end of his term? It must be that Mahathir thinks with the goodies that Najib has dished out recently in his Budget 2012, this will buy over the voters.

It will only be felt after the recipient groups have received their dues.

But to suggest that Najib defers the election until his term is expiring sounds like a hoax to deceive the Pakatan opposition, so that they will be caught unprepared if Najib calls a snap election.

Artchan: Heads I win, tails you lose. And Mahathir is calling the shots. If Najib heeds his "advice" (or threat), Najib will lose all respect from the Umno warlords.

And if Najib goes to the polls early, Mahathir will make sure Najib loses and push for a revolution in Umno for Mukhriz Mahathir to take over. Najib's tenure is over as far as Mahathir is concerned. He needs to put his son in place before he fades out.

Onyourtoes : To cut a long story short, just tell us clearly who those women at the assembly were. Tell us their status, which branch they came from, how long they have been members and how they became delegates or observers. Just tell us, otherwise the insinuations will continue.

NONE Statistically, it is too much of a coincidence to have so many attractive women sitting together at a political party's assembly. Don't divert the issue, just tell us.

C'mon, if they wanted to do it they would not have used that name. This reminds me of the stupidity of Malaysia's IGP with his KMM (Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia), which later became Kumpulan Militan Malaysia (worth another LOL!) and their magical Molotov cocktails, rocket launchers and grenades that disappear upon the threat of investigation.
