A suggestion that the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reforms probe an alleged citizenship-for-votes drive in Bangi, Selangor last week is inappropriate, said Johor PAS Youth.

NONE Its leader Suhaizan Kayat said the suggestion by Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein ( left ) could not be adopted because the issue involved dubious methods in awarding citizenships and purely electoral fraud.

"There is no need for the home minister to bring the issue to the PSC which is tasked with investigating the manipulation of the electoral system, not the manipulation of identity cards in this country.

"Maybe, for technical reasons, the home minister is trying to escape from being questioned by the PSC," said Suhaizan in a statement today.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today, Hishammuddin said the PSC was the proper forum to probe the allegations arising from the Oct 12 incident.

PAS had alleged that some 240 foreign labourers had converged in Putrajaya that day and were later bused to a resort in Bangi as part of a process to formalise their citizenship.

Hisham avoiding ‘entrepreneurship course' debate

Although there is no concrete proof to back their claims, the secretive nature of the foreigners and police involvement have prompted suspicions.

It was later clarified by the Sepang district police chief Imran Abdul Rahman that the 240 foreigners were attending an entrepreneurship course , Hishammuddin however refused to confirm this today.

suhaizan kayat baharom shah 070911 Suhaizan ( right ) said it was suspicious that the foreigners, who are not allowed to indulge in commerce, were attending a five hour entrepreneurship course.

"How could the home minister not know (what they were doing), while the district police chief knew? Does he not trust his officers? Why does the home minister treat this as a minor issue when it involves treason?

"Perhaps the home minister is worried about being trapped on the ‘entrepreneurship course' debate," he said.

Since July, PAS has been consistently highlighting irregularities in the electoral roll, in particular cases involving voters of foreign origin.
