A source close to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) told Malaysiakini today the long-overdue Auditor-General’s Report will be tabled in Parliament on Monday.

However, when approached for confirmation, other sources said this may not be the case, as the date mentioned is the date fixed for the committee to discuss the report.

NONE In another development, PAC member Tony Pua said the much-awaited report might be tabled by Monday.

“We are scheduled to meet the auditor-general on Oct 24 (Monday), so I assume we may get the report before that,” he told Malaysiakini .

However, the DAP representative for PJ Utara also noted that the meeting date could be changed if Parliament does not get the report by Monday.

The absence of the report, despite the 2012 budget already being in the debate stage, has garnered flak from the opposition MPs.

Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul said the federal audit report might have been withheld as the content "may not be to the liking" of certain parties.

Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar of PAS questioned why some states have received copies of the report, but not Parliament.

The Auditor-General's Report details the expenditure, debt and accounting discrepancies, as well as assessments of the national fiscal health.

The opposition has often argued that the data is necessary for its memebrs to effectively debate the national budget.

Tumpat MP Kamaruddin Jaafar of PAS, who also sits in the PAC, demanded the immediate release of the report.

Pakatan Rakyat parliamentarians have also demanded to know whether the auditor-general had been “pressured to edit” his annual report to make it "more palatable".
