DAP's publicity secretary Tony Pua said retractions and a public apology are in order from all websites and newspapers that are alleged to have defamed Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his teenage son.

NONE “The prime minister has come out with the statement to say that family members should be left out gutter politics. It is not enough for him to issue that statement,” the Petaling Jaya Utara MP told a press conference at Parliament lobby today.

Pua ( right ) was referring to premier Najib Abdul Razak’s comment yesterday that families of politicians should not be dragged into mudslinging .

Since it is not enough to merely issue such an advice, Pua urged Najib to direct members of Umno behind the spread of the claims to own up.

“All these are Umno members and Umno newspapers, Utusan Malaysia , they must take down all these allegations and the newspaper must retract the claims made against Guan Eng and his son,” said Pua.

“Only then we can say that the prime minister is sincere in his words that family members must be left out of gutter politics,” said Pua.

“If he (Najib) says (it shouldn’t be done) but lets his members go on issuing ridiculous allegations against Guan Eng and his son, obviously he is just playing gutter politics, trying to act like a nice guy but knowing that his members will go all out against Guan Eng,” he added.

Will MCMC act promptly?

Pua also showed a thick pile of print-outs of some 200 blog postings and online news reports that will be submitted to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) by tomorrow.

NONE “The MCMC has been extremely fast (in acting on) the recent case of (Universiti Islam Malaysia’s law professor) Abdul Aziz Bari, just for one statement to Malaysiakini.

“We are going to give the MCMC a list of 34 websites and individuals behind the postings (on Lim’s son), at least those who are identifiable. We want them to do the necessary investigation,” said Pua.

“We have compiled all the vulgar sites - the Umno blogs and including (clippings from) Utusan Malaysia , and we want MCMC to take action against the scurrilous remarks,” he said.

Lim has lashed out at pro-Umno bloggers for trying to finish off his political career by wrecking his teenage son's life with "morally despicable and barbaric" lies.

NONE The principal of SMK Heng Ee, where the incident was purported to have happened, has also categorically denied the existence of any such event or student at the school.

The alleged 'victim' whose photograph was used in relation to the allegation against Lim's son, is 21-year old Anya Ann Corke, a one-time Hong Kong chess champion who is now studying in the US.

Corke has also denied having ever met Lim's son and expressed sympathy for the teenage boy.

Since DAP revealed Corke's identity, several bloggers who have been posting comments on the issue dodged the fact saying that her photograph was used "to protect the identity of the real victim".
