PAS has blasted MCA president Chua Soi Lek’s statement on hudud law which it claims interferes in Islamic policies and goes against societal norms of respecting each other’s religion.

Chua had in report in The Star on Oct 29 said PAS’ ambition to implement hudud law would move the country backwards and scare away investors and tourists.

He added in the report that non-Muslims would also be affected in terms of economy and education.

Defending hudud law, Ibrahim said Chua’s claim was contrary to the realities in Saudi Arabia which has emerged as an important trading partner to China and the West.

“His alliance with Umno has caused him to fail to address the internal problems of MCA and he is now trying to hide his weakness and attract the support of the Chinese community by attacking Islamic laws,” said Tuan Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, pro-Pakatan Rakyat NGO Jingga 13 has lodged a police report over Chua’s statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 2.30pm today.

When contacted, its coordinator, Fariz Musa, described Chua’s comments as insolent and disputing Islamic law.

“Chua must take responsibility and apologise because his statement could threaten national harmony and stability,” he said.

‘MCA defending people’s interests’

Meanwhile, MCA secretary-general Chai Kim Sen in a statement today stressed that as a party that represents the Chinese community it is duty bound to inform them on issues that would affect their welfare.

“I wish to reiterate that MCA will not give up on defending the interests of the people, and any attempt to mislead the people and to do away with the rights of non-Muslims must be addressed at once.”

NONE Chai ( left ) was responding to DAP chairperson Karpal Singh who accused MCA of misleading the people on hudud law to garner votes.

“Kelantan is now implementing hudud laws, but DAP has yet to speak up for the non-Muslims there and have refused to leave Pakatan Rakyat.”

He added that if Pakatan comes to power, it is most probable that the president of PAS would become prime minister and the legislation of Malaysia would be challenged as it moved to form an Islamic state.
