The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today fixed Dec 8 to hear the review application by the owner of news website ‘ Malaysiakini ’, Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, to challenge the Home Ministry’s decision to reject its permit application to start a newspaper.
Justice Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim made the decision in chambers in the presence of lawyer Aston Paiva and Senior Federal Counsel Noor Hisham Ismail.
Aston, who is representing Mkini Dotcom, when met said the court had also fixed the same date for both parties to file their written submissions.
Mkini Dotcom filed the review application on Sept 28 last year and named the Home Ministry secretary-general, Home Minister and the Malaysian government as respondents.
Mkini Dotcom had applied for the permit under Section 6(1)(a) Act 301 of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 through its director, C Premesh, to publish a new daily named ‘ Malaysiakini ’.
