PAC summons education and finance ministries' officials

This decision was reached during a committee meeting on Tuesday.
“Some MPs are unhappy over the share swap because there was talk about rescheduling or closing down some routes. Some MPs feel that the consumers have been hoodwinked by the two airlines. This is something we need to look into,” said Tan Seng Giaw (DAP-Kepong) (

), one of the committee members.
He told Malaysiakini that the committee will also study whether the share swap is within the limit of current laws.
The bipartisan committee led Azmi Khalid (BN-Padang Besar) will also call officials from the Education Ministry to assist its probe into the failed RM160.74 million school computer labs project in Sabah.
“It involves a large amount of taxpayer money,” Tan said.
According to the Auditor-General’s Report 2010 released last month, the RM160.74 million project to build, supply and equip computer labs for schools in Sabah tasked to TimeCom Holdings Sdn Bhd, has failed.
This, the report said, was due to prolonged delays in completing the computer laboratories, the projects for which were meant to begin on Oct 31, 2006, and completed on April 30, 2008.
However, it noted that as of 2010, only two of the 300 planned computer laboratories were completed and handed over to the Education Ministry.
This was despite the contractor having been paid RM98.9 million or 87 percent of the RM113.74 million total construction cost.
The relevant officials from Education Ministry and Finance Ministry will have to present themselves in front of the committee tentatively on Nov 15 and 21 respectively.
