your say Anonymous_lksdk: There is a vast difference between oyster 'extract' and oyster 'essence'. It was reported in Taiwan and mainland China that many unscrupulous businessmen use 'essence' to replace the 'extract' of the real thing to make huge profit.

It was reported in Sin Chew Daily not long ago that in China that there were schools teaching chefs how to make use of beef essence to replace an equivalent of hundreds of kilograms of real beef in cooking, though they tasted nearly the same.

However, there is a health hazard in using essence. Is it not the responsibility of the Health Ministry to create public awareness of such issues and to check on all the food sold in the market?

Remember the packet/bottled 'fruit' drinks from Taiwan which were made from essence instead of the real fruit?

Even the bird's nest issue, had it not been tested out by Hong Kong and China, how many Malaysians would know that they were paying for 'poisonous' food?

Why can't our Health Ministry be more proactive?

Basically, what most people want from oyster sauce is just the flavour. Whether it contains oyster or not is immaterial. In fact, when I buy, the most important consideration is MSG (monosodium glutamate) and sodium content. I do not think Mydin should be reprimanded for being honest.

There are quite a lot of branded food that have dishonest labels - for example, not differentiating between saturated and unsaturated fat. Those are the products that need special attention.

Their rich however continue to live lavishly like buying RM24 million ring or buying RM9.8 million condo and going shopping in Perth, going on RM800,000 holidays and going to Disneyland on our account.

The poor only get to taste oyster flavour in the 1Malaysia oyster sauce while the Umno elite get to feast on real oysters.

PJ Utara MP Tony Pua is exposing a scam against the Malaysian poor, who need protection the most.

It is a matter of fundamental importance that we know our ruling elite is trying to scam us further by pretending to provide us with alternative more affordable products when that is furthest from the truth.

Consumer protection is one of key factors for a nation to be termed as developed. And currently we are swimming the wrong way.

Solaris: Consumer protection? What a laugh! Why think of consumer protection only when it's about Umno/BN/KR1M?

Why has Tony Pua not highlighted the hundreds of thousands of other substandard, unsafe or fake products (indirectly endorsed by the ruling regime through sheer complacency) sold throughout the country?

Why suddenly become a consumer crusader and why only KR1M? Does Tony Pua really care for consumers or is he targeting KR1M as a retaliation and for political mileage? The answer is as obvious as the Cheshire cat grin on his smug face.

Wira: That Umno/BN/KR1M are targeted is pretty obvious because public money is involved and Tony Pua is an elected member of parliament.

It is just like selling fake jewellery, only that they package it so that it looks like the real stuff. That those are fakes is buried in the small prints.

Chuath: Maybe Tony Pua should spend his time on more urgent and important matters at hand, such as the budget deficit, bad implementation of policies resulting in loss of money or ‘illegal' land acquisition and ‘illegal' voters.

Like the saying, there is no cure for stupidity, so if one suffers ill-health because of such mentality, refusing to learn and be discerning, there should be no complain when such ill consequences come to you.

Bender: Our government is so poor, it can't even feed its people real oysters, just essences. I wonder - where did they get oyster essence without oysters?

Until now, I bet no one wants to farm oysters, yet. So how about I propose to the government to give me RM250 million in soft loans to build (with the help of my family, of course) an oyster farm.

Then I can supply the government the much-needed oysters for the sauce. Along the way, I can also buy a few units of condos (for my oysters, lah... not for me), and go on holiday to meet other oysters.

It won't cost much, a mere RM800,000 only - I get to see foreign oysters and cross breed them with local ones and produce a bunch of Perkasa Oysters!
