KTK, better to quit 'undeserved' minister's post

YOURSAY 'Koh Tsu Koon, if you have any dignity left, it's better to quit totally than remain the punching bag of Umno.'

Tsu Koon will not contest next election

your say Multi Racial: It may sound like a big sacrifice for Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon. In reality, Koh doesn't stand a change of winning a seat, wherever he chooses to contest. I won't be surprised even if he loses his deposit.

I hope he is not expecting to be appointed as a senator if the BN wins. This seems to be the trend now for the BN - the senator's post to reward cronies and loyalists.

Actually comparing Gerakan and MCA, at least the former still has some credibility. As for MCA, it is a shameful party with shameful members who appoint shameful leaders.

Ferdtan: To opt out from the GE (general election) contest is no big sacrifice for Koh - it is a reality call as he will lose any seat he contests anyway.

He is obviously afraid to be humiliated again after the last 'tsunami' annihilated his Gerakan team in Penang. If he is sincere, he should resign as party president and as well as cabinet minister.

As a leader, Koh has been a dismal failure - he seen as weak, spent time groveling at the feet of his master, Umno.

Only once did he act as a true leader (and we shall remember this) - making the brave decision to promptly concede defeat in 2008, meeting the state governor on the same night, and paving the way to a peaceful transition of power to a DAP-led government.

This is unlike the ungentlemanly acts by Selangor and Perak MBs - Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and Tajol Rosli - who went into hiding and refused to concede defeat to enable the victorious party to take over.

If Koh Tsu Koon had the same courage as in defeat, he could have been a better leader.

Ghkok: I don't understand Koh - if he has "decided", then why does he have to "discuss with the PM"?

He's really wishy-washy - on one hand, he tries to project an image that he is strong and decisive and on the other hand, he needs to "discuss with the PM" about everything.

AkuMelayu: With your departure, KTK (Koh Tsu Koon), Penang has lost the ‘pearl' that has added value to this once backward island, bringing development that made what Penang is today.

The myopic Penangites have chosen an imported ‘fake diamond' to replace you and to lead them into a bleak future.

Penang will be choked with traffic with the construction of the tunnel and the swapped land will take away the serenity of Gurney Drive, which will drive Penangnites crazy.

Do Penangites deserve all of these? You reap what you sow. Live with it.

Wira: Aku Melayu, the land (soon-to-be a massive island) opposite Gurney Drive was given away by Penang Umno during the time when the lame Gerakan chief was CM for a consideration which, until today, was never made known to the public.

The exco member in charge of land matters in Penang then was from Umno.

Tsu Koon, don't remain in political leadership if you have no intention to compete anymore in elections. You should follow your true conscience, like your compatriot Dr Toh Kin Woon.

Kakarook: Another one bites the dust.

Rubystar_4037: Such great sacrifice brought near tears to my eyes. KTK, if you have any dignity left, it's better to quit totally than remain the punching bag of Umno and others.

You are a has-been. So crow no more and give some face to your children as they too need some dignity.

Jeremy Ng: As expected, KTK will not contest. It is crystal clear, he will lose if he stand in Penang.

Gerakan started well in the early days and became totally irrelevant under KTK. He should now do the most obvious and honourable exit by resigning as minister. Any delay is greedy and dishonourable.

Manjit Bhatia: It will make no difference whatsoever with or without Koh Tsu Koon leading Gerakan or being a MP.

Koh should also resign from the cabinet and  the government as that would be the right thing to do. He is only there because of his so-called loyalty to Umno.

Gen Half Track: About time.

Penang CM blames Umno for Koh's decision

Dood: Umno is BN and BN is Umno. Why do you think so many of us say ‘Umno-BN'? They are one and the same. All the other so-called ‘component parties' are just there for show, and Gerakan is no exception.

Umno as the boss and master calls the shots and all others nod and wag their tails in submissive agreement. Don't worry, Tsu Koon, if you are obedient enough and pledge to be a good political puppet, if Umno-BN wins, you might get rewarded with a post.

Lim Chong Leong: When has it ever been Koh Tsu Koon's decision in anything? It has always been either BN chairman aka PM or the Gerakan CWC (central working committee).

Please read KTK's announcements and speeches. He made the decision to quit after March 2008 but that was quickly reversed by the PM and Gerakan leaders, who apparently asked him to stay.

Indeed, the reason Gerakan lost Penang was partly due to the fact that he couldn't decide who should be CM had they won. Until now, he cannot announce who will take over the state leadership.

He wants Gerakan secretary-general Teng Chang Yeow but Umno wants vice-chairperson Ong Thean Lye. So he says it is up to Najib. ‘Bo Hood' (no balls) is a pedigree yesman.
