Penang police will be taking statements from Komtar state legislative assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik ( below ) to assist in the investigation on a police report by a woman against him. 

State police chief Ayub Yaakob said police would be calling several other witnesses to record their statements. 

NONE “Police have received the report by the woman involved and an investigation paper has been issued.

"We will be calling those involved in the incident including the state assemblyperson,” he told reporters after a ‘Police Meet-the-Customers Day’ programe in Butterworth yesterday.

“Three victims of a fire at a row of shophouses in Jalan Gudwara yesterday alleged they were ridiculed and humiliated by a DAP state assemblyperson and accused them of being national traitors for causing the fire. 

Recycling goods trader Sarimah Packeer Mohamed, 43, reported that Ng was high-handed and humiliated her husband, a Bangladeshi national, in front of the public during his visit to the site of the fire on Wednesday. 

Death threats

She said the DAP assemblyperson accused them of masterminding the fire which started from the kitchen of a senior citizen from another unit. 

Ayub said the case would be investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code. 

Meanwhile, he confirmed that another report was made by Sarimah’s husband on an alleged death threat by two unidentified men yesterday afternoon.  

“In the report, he was purportedly approached by two men wearing helmets who threatened to kill him,” he said.          

He said police were also investigating if the death threat was connected to the police report made by the victim’s wife.
