Umno: From euphoric highs to harsh reality

Every decent Malay and right thinking Malaysian was looking forward to the delegates, particularly the top brass of Umno, to address the issues of the day, such as education, economy, labour shortage, increasing cost of living and the future of this country in the face of increasing global competition.

None of these issues were debated. Instead, there was plenty of talk of who is more racist, maximum DAP/PKR/PAS bashing, character assassination and all that garbage.

After 53 years of independence, there is the same old rhetoric of Malay supremacy as well as promoting racial divisions.

They fail to understand that our real competitors are other countries and not the Chinese and Indians in the country. I do not believe this will ever happen in our lifetime. God save this country!

Titan: The Internet has levelled the playing field in Malaysian politics. The strong cannot simply take what they want from the weak.

When we choose our leaders, we ensure that we are not led simply by some who is going to force him or her on us.

Let us follow example of Taiwan. Kuomintang ruled Taiwan for 50 years and was so corrupt.

Then the Democratic Party's Chen Shu Bian took over for 10 years. Chen became corrupt and the Taiwanese brought back Kuomintang.

Throw BN out this GE13 and bring Pakatan in. If Pakatan becomes corrupt, throw it out in GE14.

AB Sulaiman: As long as the electoral roll is not cleansed, and the electoral districts still gerrymandered, Umno and BN will have a good chance of getting through.

I still say that we should do all we can to prevent GE13 from taking place until these two items are sorted out to our satisfaction.

Onyourtoes: Throughout the five-day assembly, a common theme emerged - do not sabotage the party and its candidates.

Why do you think this is so? Do we need to sabotage the party and its candidates so that a person can get the chance to serve the party and the country?

Why do we have to fight tooth and nail in order to have the opportunity to serve? Do you think it sounds right? What then is the sabotage all about? To get into the gravy train obviously.

How can Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen say Penang CM Lim Guan Eng is accountable for the demolition? What if the building collapses? Will Ng take responsibility?

Fortunately, the defects were discovered early. If not, many people will perish if it collapses due to bad design.

In other countries, she would already be disqualified to hold a minister's post. I cannot trust a person who praises the country sky high while his/her heart is thousands of miles away.
