Submissions in the Anwar Ibrahim Sodomy II trial, initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday, have been put off to Dec 12 and 13.

This was announced after defence lawyers Karpal Singh and Sankara Nair met with Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah along with deputy public prosecutor CK Wong in chambers at 3pm today.

“The defence needs more time to transcribe the notes, especially from our expert witness. We are having problems dealing with the medical jargon. Hence, we asked for more time,” Karpal said.

“However, the prosecution vehemently objected to our request, claiming it was not a valid excuse. Following this, Justice Zabidin allowed postponement of the case till Monday.”

Karpal said the trial days fixed for Thursday and Friday have now been vacated. Initially the court had fixed Nov 23 and 24 as dates for submission.

Anwar is charged with sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at the Desa Damansara Condominium between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

The prosecution completed its case after calling 27 witnesses while the defence called seven witnesses, including Anwar, who testified from the dock.
