The Audit Department will provide a detailed explanation on its 2010 audit report on the National Feedlot Centre soon, said Auditor-General Ambrin Buang yesterday.

NONE In an interview with the Malay language daily Sinar Harian , Ambrin (right) hoped the forthcoming clarification would solve the crisis that has hit the cattle rearing project since the release of his report last October.

“I will explain the issues soon,” he told the newspaper, declining to divulge more details.

Ambrin’s comments come as National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) chairperson Mohamed Salleh Ismail has insisted that the confusion highlighted in the audit report does not have anything to do with the company.

Mohamed Salleh had pointed out that the cattle farm is managed by the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry.

He added that the auditors were confused between the two entities as the cattle project is owned by the government, whereas the NFC is a private family business.

NFC has come under fire, accused by the opposition of using public funds to purchase luxury condominiums; pay for an overseas trip by family members of the project operators; and RM600,000 in credit card expenses.

The NFC has refuted the allegations, saying it had met its production targets, and that the condominium units were an investment to hedge unutilised funds.

Earlier, Mohamed Salleh, who is also husband of Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, said the NFC had been sabotaged by two former staff members who had leaked its financial information to outsiders.
