It's our retirement money the gov't is using
VOXPOP 'This isn't your grandfather's money to 'fool around' with. Let me remind the PM that you are not allowed to take even one sen from EPF.'
Pua: 'Easy housing loan' scheme breaches EPF Act
Rick Teo:
The fact concealed by the government is that a large percentage of the money contributed in the EPF (Employees Provident Fund) belongs to non-Malays.
The Malays, who are mostly in the civil service, do not contribute to the EPF. Hence whatever money taken from EPF is largely money taken from non-Malays.
Hence if the EPF goes bust, it's the non-Malays' money and the government doesn't give a damn. Can an EPF contributor sue the government for going against the EPF Act 1961?
Q: If billions of ringgit are being spent for submarines, why can't we save that amount and spend it on the poor people who need homes?
If the intention of the people's welfare is genuine then stop spending on arms, submarines and Rosmah Mansor's shopping spree. There will be surplus if such spending is stopped.
Reborn: No subject is taboo for the opposition, not even the possibility of housing for people who do not have a roof over their heads. What next will they oppose?
If you are a government-in-waiting, then make suggestions - it's your chance to show the voters that if you are against something, you have a solution.
So far, no more highways, no help for homeless housing and not sure what else when and if Pakatan Rakyat comes to power. They will probably be opposing each other's suggestions like they do now, while the people and country wait.
Keturunan Malaysia: What PJ Utara MP Tony Pua is saying is that you cannot 'commit murder' even if your intention is good, and we aren't even sure yet if the intention of this government scheme is indeed good to start with.
Why should Pua provide solutions when all he is doing is pointing out that the proposal is against the EPF Act 1991?
Furthermore, this isn't your grandfather's or grandmother's money to 'fool around' with and to term RM1.5 billion as relatively small is very cheeky to say the least.
I am one of the EPF contributors continuously contributing a few thousand ringgit a month faithfully for the past four decades and I say, go jump into the river.
If the government wants to help, really, really wants to help, why not take a loan and/or guarantee one in a proper manner?
Macha97: Only an idiot uses such justification as RM1.5 billion is a small amount compared to what the EPF has. Let me remind the PM that you are not allowed to take even one sen from EPF.
Nora: Najib is a habitual law breaker and he is not bothered at all of the comments made by subscribers of Malaysiakini .
He wants votes and he knows he will never get his votes from the educated voters who know about all his wrongdoings.
Progressive: Years ago, I had a terse encounter with EFP officials over my account balance. This was what I was told:
"As long as your money is with KWSP (EPF), it is OUR money. When we return the money to you, only then it becomes YOUR money."
That's EPF's thinking. They do not see themselves as trustees of our hard-earned money. We should work to take back control of EPF or this, and many other blatant abuses, will not stop.
Petestop: I'm going to opt for early retirement and get my money out when I'm 50 years old. Leaving my money in EPF is very risky due to the incompetent government treating it like its private piggy bank.
Shahrizat, like Caesar's wife, must be above suspicion
FellowMalaysian: Big questions surrounds Shahrizat Abdul Jalil as to whether her deft hands had muddied into areas of serious concerns such as accountability, integrity and abuse of power.
NFC (National Feedlot Corporation) has become the talk of town due to prolonged delays or deferment of finding a judicious answer to appease the vociferous public, which has grown uneasy and agitated by the day.
The decision lies squarely on PM Najib Razak's hands and the conundrum has become even more complicated with further revelations and accusations made.
It is surely a tightrope tangle and Najib is fully aware that any wrong move may just break his hope of putting up a credible show in this coming election.
Anonymous_3e0b: To Josie Fernandez - "Impeccable conduct totally beyond reproach without even the implication of impropriety."
These words are missing in the dictionary of many Umno members. If its ministers have even five percent of what you called for, the country can be considered blessed.
Qiqi: Cows and condos - both are hot topics at this CNY (Chinese New Year) celebrations and for making small talks. Let her stay on and let BN collapse faster.
Queenie: The last person to lead the NFC task force should be DPM Muhyiddin Yassin. It has to be recalled he was the agriculture minister at the time the loan was given and that the project was awarded to someone with no experience or expertise whatsoever in the cattle business.
Furthermore, the soft loan was given to the family of a fellow cabinet minister and this smacks of cronyism. In effect, the DPM has been tasked to investigate his own complicity in the project which, of course, is laughable.
And what solution are we talking about here? A solution for the vindication of Shahrizat and her family or a solution for the rescue the project?
As far as the people are concerned, it is clear that the loan was given to Shahrizat's family simply because she was a federal minister.
The question that begs to be asked is whether the family would have got the loan on their own merit. No way Jose. A snow ball would have a better chance in hell.
Anonymous_05: If Caesar's wife, Pompeia, is in the shoes of Shahrizat today, the verdict would have been a foregone conclusion.
