Telecommunication service provider Celcom has denied that it sent calls to customers asking them which political party they are inclined to vote for in the next general election.

"We wish to notify and alert our customers that the recent voice calls requesting their political prefrence that were sent to our customers impersonating Celcom as the sender is considered a fraud.
"As such, we wish to advise our customers to ignore such calls and messages as they being administered by irresponsible parties requesting sensitive information from our users," read a notice posted at Celcom's official website.
The company advised customers against responding to such calls and messages, and should they find them obtrusive, they should report the matter to the relevant authorities.
The notice shared a sample of the voice call circulating among its customers that went like this: "Press 1 to vote for Pakatan Rakyat, 2 to vote for Barisan Nasional and 3 if you are undecided".
A person had complained to Malaysiakini earlier this week that he received a phone call from a private number with an automated message asking for their voting preference.
He claimed that his friends using Celcom mobile service also had also received similar calls.
