Kita to contest ROS show-cause letter

Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) has instructed its legal counsel to contest a show-cause letter issued by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on why the party should not be de-registered.
Party information chief Mohd Mazlan Abd Manaf said the show-cause letter was “unwarranted” as he claimed the registrar had the power to cancel the registration of a society only under the circumstances as set out in Section 13 of the Societies Act.
“The existence of complaints by some disgruntled ex-members on the internal management of the society does not constitute circumstances under which Section 13 can be invoked.
“Our legal counsel will contest this show-cause letter. We are confident that we will prevail as our arguments have an irrefutable legal basis.
“The central executive committee assures members that they have no reason to worry and should remain calm. The complaints were lodged by individuals who are not even members of the party,” he said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur today.
Kita, established over a year ago, received the show-cause letter from ROS dated Feb 9, demanding an explanation on why the party’s registration should not be cancelled.
