The shroud of secrecy over Tajudin deal
VOXPOP 'Good governance requires the government to prove that everything is above board, especially when RM500-plus million is being written off.'
Dr M: Prove abuse of power in Tajudin-GLCs deal
Lim Chong Leong:
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said we must prove that the Tajudin Ramli-GLC settlement is tainted.
I thought after all these years as a so-called leader, he would know that good governance requires the government to prove that everything is above board and not hide everything under a shroud of secrecy, especially when there is a judgment sum of RM500-plus million, plus interest, written off.
The terms of settlement? No one knows because all parties were instructed to appoint Hafarizam Harun as their lawyer to ensure no one knows the terms.
And Hafarizam is now owner of one of the biggest construction project handouts ,together with the wife of a controversial former chief justice, who is linked to Umno.
Who needs to prove what? Umno leaders need to prove they are clean or we vote someone else in.
Armageddon: Tajudin was ordered by the High Court to pay national asset restructuring company Danaharta RM589 million. And just like that, the case is settled out of court and only God knows whether he has to pay a single sen.
Something is not right and since it involves GLCs (government-linked companies), and we, the rakyat, indirectly own these GLCs. We need to know what the Tajudin, Danaharta and the GLCs deal is.
Ksn: Mahathir, please explain why millions of Tajudin's MAS shares were bought for RM8 each by the government, using public funds when it was trading at RM4 each in the market?
It is for the government to come clean in this shameful settlement done behind closed doors.
It is not the duty or responsibility of Transparency International, Zaid Ibrahim, or any third party to do that. Huge sums of public funds are involved.
You were PM for donkey's years and you do not even know about public accountability?
Ah Beng Kor: Any member of the rakyat who follows the MAS case is sure that Tajudin was given the buy-back guarantee by the then Mahathir administration.
If the case proceeds in the courts, Tajudin will 'tell all' as he has threatened.
Onyourtoes: The proof of abuse is in the lack of disclosure of the terms of settlement. We do not have to prove anything to you, Mahathir.
You will have to prove to us the terms and conditions are fair and that those who abused the company will suffer the consequences of their actions.
GGXY: Mahathir is the master of hiding evidence. It is easier to find a needle in the haystack than get evidence of his misdeeds. He has since passed some of his traits to the present prime minister and the Umno-BN government.
Queenie: He is not denying there was abuse of power. He is just asking the people to prove it.
Don't be smug, MM (Mahathir Mohamad). We have already complained to the highest court so let us see whether you and your cronies can prove to Him that there was no abuse of power.
Multi Racial: Now it is obvious why Dr M, who has retired, still wants to have a say in everything. Ask yourself, why would a retiree be interested in helping Tajudin, who has screwed up MAS (Malaysia Airlines System)?
Why there is a need to bail out Tajudin? Who is so afraid of Tajudin?
Hisham: No attack on Anwar in my constituency
Centurion: I thought Hishammuddin Hussein's constituency is the whole of Malaysia since he is the home minister or am I mistaken and he is only in charge of his home constituency, Sembrong?
Chandran Siva: If this had happened to Umno leaders Najib Razak/Muhyiddin Yassin/Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, the whole police force would have been deployed to catch the culprits.
The attack on Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's car happened in front of the police and yet no one has been charged so far. What does that means? That the police are the slaves of Umno.
Malaysians want the police to safeguard this country, apply the law equally to everyone and act without favour.
Chipmunk: You, being the home minister, should not have made a statement that the incident did not happen in your constituency. You should instead ask why such an incident has happened in Malaysia.
Stop defending yourself and start defending the rakyat (including those who support the opposition). You forget your role as the home minister and the responsibilities that come with the job.
JooGuan: Does this mean the incident was not a crime?
Justice Pao: Hisham, can I say that even though I can see my neighbours being robbed or raped, it is not in my house, so I can just close my eyes and let this happen to them?
Are you a home minister just for Umno?
