Khalid pounds Najib for 'BN-only' meeting

Ksn: Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim has pointed out a very pertinent subject. The politicians and civil servants must draw the line between them.

Prime Minister Najib Razak was definitely in the wrong to invite or instruct the chief secretary to the meeting and chief secretary Mohd Sidek Hassan, on his part, should have known that this was one occasion he is not qualified to attend and should have declined.

But then Umno thinks that all civil servants are Umno servants, wrongly no doubt. I wonder what the civil servants think about their positions.

Bearing in mind that our PM has been stridently promoting 1Malaysia all these years, what has happened (where Pakatan leaders were not invited the 114th Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers' Meeting) is very disappointing.

I can understand how Khalid and other Pakatan menteris besar and chief ministers feel.

Jimmy Ng: Khalid is spot on. If the meeting is only for BN then the expenditure for it (including tea, coffee and curry puffs) must all come from BN only and not from the government. Plus the chief secretary who is a civil servant, should not be attending.

But knowing these despotic, ignorant yet arrogant BN people, they will try to defend and justify their corrupt ways because they behave and think as though they own the country and the whole nation owes them.

Jeremy Ng: This is just one of the many abuses by the government. The only difference is that BN now is openly doing it.

This had been going on for too long and civil servants' irresponsible attitude cannot be changed. This has led to inefficiency and poor governance as part of the ‘mutual helping' between civil servants and BN politicians.

Loyal Malaysian: This is the sort of hypocritical leader who goes about mouthing 1Malaysia and yet cannot distinguish between his duties as head of the Umnoputras and head of the Malaysian government.

2cts worth : Khalid should forgive Ah Jib Gor (Najib) for he doesn't know what he is doing most of the time - his 1Malaysia and "world's best democracy" are very clear indications.

Then there are the forex (foreign exchange) losses amounting to more than RM4 billion, I think at that time Minister in the PM's Department Nor Mohamed Yaacob was with the Bank Negara. Was anybody responsible for those losses or not?

During Tunku Abdul Rahman's time, we were a country apart from Southeast Asia, we were economically much better off. Now we are just another country in Southeast Asia.

If not for the squandering and plundering, I think we will be as rich as oil-rich Brunei.

Zar: If we look at it we can notice something fishy behind the MAS buyout by Tajudin Ramli and the government. Why is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) not investigating this?

Alan Goh: A full audit of Mahathir losses might not reveal the true figure as long as Umno is in power. A royal commission of inquiry to be headed by a retired judge of high calibre, like justice NH Chan, is a better option.

What comes out of the RCI is another issue, especially after the RCI on the Lingam tape when no one is charged or prosecuted after spending millions in taxpayers' money.

Onyourtoes: Since the inception of the New Economic Policy (NEP), the moronic argument has always been to create among the Malays a class who are able to live in bungalows and be super rich. The logic was there are very few Malays living in bungalows when compared with the non-Malays.

But then, what is public policy and state assistance programmes all about? The state, through its assistant programmes can only aim at making the people less poor. It can never be used to make some people super rich.

Now I want all Malaysians, particularly the Malays, to look at the content of NEP and the vast majority of its programmes. Are they essentially aiming at poverty alleviation or are they mainly schemes aimed at making some Malays super rich?

Yes, you look at the major ones which cost lots of money for the government to implement from the approved permits (APs) of various kinds, to bumi shares requirements, to award of government projects, contracts and privatisation.

Clearwater: The hard costs of Mahathir's 22 years of premiership can be estimated in money terms but the soft costs are beyond calculation because millions of Malaysians continue to suffer from his misrule.

How can one estimate the cost of social injustice, breakdown of state institutions and rule of law, pervasive corruption, national divisiveness, loss of educational competitiveness and the like?

How to measure the personal misery he caused to so many, families forced apart because of his unequal Malaysia that had no place in the sun for bright young talent not of the right ilk?

I would want to leave all of this man's baggage behind to begin a new journey after GE13. Enough of this monster.

Stories: I fully agree. It's time to take stock of our losses and demand compensation from the thieves.
