The BN Youth wing should set up a special disciplinary investigation committee to probe the chaos at the anti-Lynas rally on Sunday, which left two journalists hurt.

The idea was mooted at a joint press conference yesterday by state MCA youth chief Tan Hing Teik, Gerakan deputy chief Albert Tan and Parti Cinta Malaysia youth chief Liew Yeow Hooi.

State BN Youth chief Oh Tong Keong told Malaysiakini later that, after the police complete their investigations the wing will discuss further action if any of its members were involved in the violence that day.

Liew ( left ) who participated in the gathering said the situation was peaceful until a group wearing "Umno caps came to sabotage the event before Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng arrived".

He also said that he heard some in the group uttering vulgar words, but does not know if Guan Eng had responded to them or worsened the situation.

Organisers must inform police

"If he did so, then he is considered not calm enough,

"In such situations, a leader should control the atmosphere wisely, look after public safety and not worsen the situation," he said.

"People's sentiments are different. Even if you ask the Umno members to shut up, they can consider that an instigation," he stressed.

Albert, who was there at the rally but did not witness the fracas as he had left for dinner, said there must be a reason for an incident to occur.

He, too, said that he had heard that the fracas broke out because Lim had provoked the situation.

However, he urged the Organizers of such events in the future to inform the police for precautions to be taken.

This remark follows state Police Chief Ayub Yaacob statement that the organisers, Suaram, did not inform the police of the gathering until after chaos broke out.

When asked if Umno youth was involved in the rally, Albert said, they are two types of involvement.

First, it must be organised by the party and second is on the individual own initiative, he said.

"It is better that the police investigate which one," he said.

"Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin had already said he did not order his members to take part.

"But we should not stop here, we want police to investigate who is the culprit," he added.

"If the findings show that any BN component party members were involved in any violent behaviour, they should be sack them, said Albert, but was quick to add that this was his own opinion.

Meanwhile, Tan said although Lim had blamed Umno and Perkasa members for disrupting the peaceful rally, "one hand cannot clap".

He added that the MCA will not condone any violence, and urged all parties to condemn such acts.

But since the police has intervened in the matter, the authorities must let the public know the outcome of the case and charge those involved.
