PKR treasurer-general William Leong was called by the police today to record his statement over a ceramah held by the party’s Selayang division last month.

Leong revealed that the police was probing the matter under Section 143 of the Penal Code; whether the ceramah was indeed an illegal assembly.

Leong added the ceramah was held at Bandar Tasik Puteri on Feb 17.

“The application for the permit was rejected by the police a day before the ceramah,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

According to Section 141 of the Penal Code, an assembly of five or more persons, displaying any criminal force, is designated as an “unlawful assembly”.

Asked whether he would be charged in court, Leong replied: “I don’t think so. We were holding a peaceful ceramah.”
