The onus on Najib to prove he's clean

YOURSAY 'The holder of the highest public office in the country must always be seen to be above reproach and cleaner than clean.'

Bare denials not good enough, Rafizi tells PM

your say AnakPinang: Is it not odd that the PM himself has not said anything to deny or to prove the veracity of the ‘PM's Office paid for his daughter's engagement party' claim?

One would think that he should, but then again this is familiar. A case in point - the alleged Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan meeting (among many others, such as Altantuya Shaariibuu, etc).

The onus is not on PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli to prove anything. When one holds public office, one's life is public domain, and especially so in a case such as this when the evidence begs clarification.

The PM has touted that he is a simple man, with simple tastes and understands the hardship of the people. It is on that premise that he wants us to vote for him, so he needs to prove it.

I, for one, already know the answer. Silence is usually consent, and in this case it is also an admission.

Lynn: I totally agree; the holder of the highest public office in the country must always be seen to be above reproach and cleaner than clean.

Which is why Najib is completely not suitable to hold this post. His wife is greedy and for her, it's never enough. Najib is a henpecked husband, so what is he to do?

As said in the article, even the Kazakhstan trip was obviously paid for by taxpayers' money and whatever for? What possible good can Malaysia get out of ties with that country of crooks and the mafia?

Queenie: I have totally lost all respect for this PM of ours. He just isn't cut out to be a leader and I am wondering what wrong we have done to deserve him.

For decades he, his cronies and people of his ilk have been robbing the country wholesale with impunity. All this just has to stop.

Fairgo: Absolute power corrupts. By giving any government a two-thirds majority, that is giving them absolute power.

Perhaps BN has forgotten that there is now a strong opposition? BN should not be treating the money in the country's coffers as its own to spend as in the past. It belongs to the people and elected opposition members like Rafizi has a job to do to provide checks and balances to the government.

Pemerhati: Rafizi said that Najib "will grapple with the public perception that despite his massive campaign to portray him as a clean and transparent prime minister, he is no different from his other colleagues in the cabinet who allegedly use the public fund for personal gains".

But Rafizi seems to have forgotten that Najib with episodes such as ‘Scorpene', ‘Altantuya', ‘Port Dickson' and Rosmah's dresses and diamond ring to his credit, he is already way ahead of all his other BN colleagues.

The rate at which he is going, he would soon be able to catch up with the biggest thief in Malaysia who calls himself a constitutional Malay and who also tries his best to hide his Malayalee ancestry.

Onyourtoes: If a backdoor minister can secure for her family hundreds of millions, don't tell me a sitting PM cannot abuse RM500,000. This is chicken feed.

Just like former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad has always said, he and the BN government has made billionaires out of many, so are you going to believe they themselves are not billionaires?

By the way, why ask the PM directly over this matter? Rafizi should ask the chief secretary to the government or the accountant-general.

Make them earn their own upkeep. Make them come out to confirm or deny who has paid for the engagement function.

Mc Farland: Of course, our Bolehland PM can afford to fork the money for his daughter's party as he is the finance minister.

He has enough finance at his and his wife's disposal to pay for every darn thing. Just one instruction will do and his ‘khaki' (minions) will cover all of them.

Clever Voter: The prime minister of all people ought to show an example of integrity and accountability.

But in a country where public servants do not differentiate between personal and professionalism, crooked politicians see their 'extra perks' as a privileges and friends of these crooked politicians continue to thrive in the political patronage.

An overhaul of this unhealthy system must be part of Pakatan Rakyat's manifesto. We need a leader bold enough to push for change, and be brave enough to be unpopular and resolute with this vision.

The rot from the top has already spread; this has to stop.

Anonymous: A kleptocracy is a kleptocracy is a kleptocracy - what's new?
