NFC debate: Parliament not subordinate to courts

Speaker rejects debate on NFC
Anonymous_3f4a:
It's absolutely diabolical for the speaker of the august House to reject the motion on NFC. It shows the lack of independence on the part of the speaker in discharging his duties.
The motion is not about of the role of the NFC chairman in the saga but that of the Agriculture Ministry and the Treasury. Clearly, the scandal is of sufficient public interest to warrant an urgent motion to bring the respective ministries to account.
The NFC chairman and his fellow directors cannot perpetuate the alleged irregularities without the collusion and collaboration of the two ministries concerned.
To cite the court proceeding as reasons for rejecting the motion is to insult the intelligence of the public. It shows the corruption of the system and the federal government.
Kit P: Parliament is empowered by the constitution to discuss issues of national importance. It is not subordinate to the courts.
Debate on matters of public interest surrounding the NFC issue should not stop just because there is a pending court case.
In the interest of justice, the House speaker can ask MPs to refrain from giving opinions on the guilt or innocence of the accused - that's as far as it goes.
Onyourtoes: We have emperors and dictators everywhere: parliamentary speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia rejected an urgent motion to debate NFC, and then the Dewan Rakyat turned down four questions related to the settlement struck between former Malaysia Airlines chairperson Tajudin Ramli and government-linked corporations (GLCs), saying that the questions were sub judice.
But how can it be sub judice when the Tajudin settlement was over and done with? Looking at all these examples, I think it is better for Pakatan MPs not to attend the Dewan sitting.
They should instead assemble somewhere else and have their own debate, highlighting all issues and questions they want the government of the day to answer.
How dare BN want another two-thirds majority? Can you imagine how much we would have missed by now, if not for 308 (March 2008)?
Caripasal: Perhaps speaker Pandikar Amin should read the constitution thoroughly. MPs cannot be challenged in the courts for what they say in Parliament.
Quigonbond: Obviously the representatives from the ministries were sleeping on the job in regards to NFC. They too should be charged for their complicity in the whole scandal.
MP: Billing to PMO not evidence of wrongdoing
WangMalaysia: I am sure the image of the cheque paid to Shangri-La Hotel can be reproduced.
If Shangri-La claimed that the PM paid for it, let's request the payee bank to reproduce the scanned copy of the cheque to see if it's a personal cheque or cheque from PMO (Prime Minister's Office).
After all, the accuser has already produced evidence of order made by PMO, hence PMO is liable for the bill.
Secondly, the PM by using PMO to organise and manage a personal event is already an abuse of public resources. Don't those folks at PMO have anything else to do?
Maplesyrup: My credit card statements are mailed to my office address. Check the statements you will see however, that the addressee is still me, I and ‘saya'.
If bill is merely sent to PMO address, I would think the bill should state the PM's personal name as the payee. But if the bill is issued in the name of PMO, I think it is quite obvious.
Vinod: Kota Belud Umno MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan thinks he is very smart, loves to spin but in his spinning he'll always be found wanting because in truth he's not smart.
This MP, along with Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi, are directors of YGP Holdings, which is in a joint venture development with SP Setia in developing land at Abdullah Hukum after relocated the Malay villagers who used to live there.
Kleptopoliticians - the nexus of business and politics, nefarious to say the least.
Ferdtan: Do you know why PM Najib Razak himself never issue a statement to deny or to clarify the controversial allegation? Instead, you get the inconsequential rebuttals from the hotel, PMO personnel and now Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman.
The PM is afraid of an ‘entrapment' laid by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli - that he may have more damaging evidence that he is not telling.
If Najib were to come out blazing away at him, he may be caught with his pants down if further evidence proved him wrong in what he expressly said in public. Then his credibility would be irreparably tarnished.
It is safer to get his minions to deny on his behalf - after all, silence is golden.
Malaysia ABU: If my daughter's wedding expenses is billed to my company, any of my company shareholders has the right to ask me to show prove that the billing is a mistake and actually it is me who directly pay the bill, and that it does not involve the company.
Samuel Ng: Abdul Rahman, please attend remedial English class before trying to teach us the difference between "billed to PMO" and "send bill to PMO".
Not only have the standard of our English deteriorated but also the moral values of our MP.
Dingy: There are too many things related to Najib that cannot be explained. Who ordered his personal body guards to kill Altantuya Shaariibuu? Who allowed the two bodyguards to use military explosive to blow up Altantuya, and we know that Najib was defence minister at the time?
Why the national debt is more than double after his three years in office? We are in deficit budget for umteen years and suddenly this year he has so much money to give out, in billions, under various 1Malaysia projects.
Give him a few more years in office and our national debt would exceed the GDP. At least the European Union helps Greece to recover. Who can help Malaysia if we go bankrupt?
