Opposition party DAP claimed that it has a tape recording of the speech made by Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman in which he had allegedly warned that the state government would withhold development if the people voted for the opposition tomorrow.
"A lot of tape recordings had been sent to us. We have a record of what he had said - 'vote no BN, no development!'" said Dr Hiew King Cheu, the DAP candidate for Kota Kinabalu parliamentary constituency and Inanam state seat.
Musa, also Sabah Umno chief, had allegedly made those remarks two days ago in a speech at the Dewan Tun Mustapha.
Hiew had earlier filed an official complaint on the alleged threat with state election officer Mohd Moktar Ahmad at his office in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
Accompanying him was another DAP candidate, Fung Kong Win, who is contesting against incumbent Dr Yee Moh Chai in the Api-Api state constituency.
"We will not let him (Musa) go this time. He thought that as chief minister, he can say whatever he likes. But when it comes to threatening Sabah voters, it is the road of no return," stressed Hiew, who is also DAP Kota Kinabalu branch chairperson.
"We will fight to the end even if he is elected by tomorrow. We will proceed with the case, to make sure that he will be disqualified as a member of parliament."
Under the election laws, candidates who made such threats could be disqualified.
Musa's denial unacceptable
Hiew also emphasised that Musa's denial over the incident in the various local newspapers yesterday was unacceptable.
"We hope the EC can seriously look into the matter in order to uphold the election laws and the constitution," he said.
He added that he had also referred the matter to the party's legal panel for further action.
Meanwhile, Mohd Moktar assured Hiew that the EC would investigate all complaints regardless of which political parties had made them.
