Penang Umno today gave Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng two weeks to reply on the sale of the mosque and school sites in Bayan Mutiara.

Its liaison committee chief Zainal Abidin Osman said Penang Umno would consider applying for a court injunction or any other steps to prevent the development of the land if Lim failed to give a concrete reply within the period.

He said the chief minister was only required to answer based on facts without any twist and turn on whether the state government had sold the mosque and school sites or otherwise.

"The people just want to know, yes or no... whether the mosque site is still there or not," he told reporters after opening the 1Malaysia Community Arts and Culture Programme in Nibong Tebal today.

He said the state government should focus on the people in any development programme by balancing their spiritual and recreational needs.

Commenting on Lim's decision to take legal action against state Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin on the issue, Zainal Abidin said the action did not reflect the democractic stand advocated by Lim.

The Bayan Mutiara controversy arose when the state government agreed to sell a 41.5 hectare site to a private developer, Ivory Properties at a price of RM1.07 billion.

The land is considered very valuable and the location is very strategic as it is near the Penang Bridge, Free Trade Zone and the Bayan Lepas International Airport.
