The Hasbie Satar money-laundering hearing at the Sessions Court in Butterworth today was informed by Gallant Route Sdn Bhd director Lim Eng Keong that the accused was recorded as a ‘contact person’ in a list of nine projects by a construction company, five years ago.
Lim, 55, said the letter ‘H’ was written in the relevant column, indicating Hasbie, the political secretary to then-finance minister II, Nor Mohamed Yakcop.
He added that there was a ‘suggested amount’ column in the list with several figures in percentages, which were the sums to be paid to the ‘contact person’.
“My company is a sub-contractor to Nadi Cergas Sdn Bhd, which is a class A bumiputera contractor involved in government projects,” he said.
“The list was prepared on the instructions of another Gallant Route director, Tan Kim Chooi, as payments to the ‘contact person’ for government projects between June 2007 and May 2008,” Lim told presiding judge Ikmal Hishan Mohd Tajuddin.
The nine projects included the construction of Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Advanced Medical and Dentistry Institute, Police Academy in Cheras, Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology, Anti-Drugs Complex and the Perlis Sports School.
Lim was the eighth prosecution witness in the trial of former political secretary at the Prime Minister’s Department, Hasbie Satar, who is charged with money laundering a sum of RM2.134 million, on Feb 11 last year.
Hasbie, 39, faces a fine of up to RM5 million or five years in prison or both, upon conviction under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Financing of Terrorism Act 2001.
Yesterday’s proceedings saw a line up of seven witnesses, which included three company directors and two managing directors, testifying for the prosecution.
Among them were the managing directors of Zambina Wawasan Sdn Bhd and PAE Builders Sdn Bhd, Izham Omar Merican and Abu Bakar Ismail, respectively.
The others were directors of Fauzi Haji Idris Sdn Bhd, Fauzi Idris; Ismafinie (Md) Sdn Bhd, Nik Mohd Iskandar Nik Hassan; Syarikat Seri Delima Anggun, Rizal Sabtu.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission DPP Anselm Charles Fernandis led the prosecution and Mohamad Fairuz B Masri appeared for Hasbie.
The trial resumes tomorrow.
