Where was such concern for the image and respect of the rulers when then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the same mainstream media were mercilessly savaging the royalty?

I remember that to save Umno's hide and to let Mahathir have his dictatorial ways, the papers at the time would come out every single day with reports of how the rulers had abused their station.

One such story was about the Kelantan sultan illegally driving away his Porsche from the Customs holding area.

And in keeping with their cunning ways, they have now take out full-page ads to attack the opposition without stating what it is that PKR leaders Azmin Ali and Tian Chua were supposed to have uttered.

No doubt all this must be part of PM Najib Razak's frantic "crush bodies" strategy in his efforts to try and retain Putrajaya.

Disbeliever: If any action is to be taken, the ones who should be charged for disrespecting the royalty should be Mahathir, who had pushed for amendments to the law to curtail the powers of the royalty, and also organisations such as Perkasa that now and again spew seditious statements to create disharmony in the country.

Where were they then? Mahathir is still alive and kicking. Why not have a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on what Mahathir had done then?

Geronimo: What a bunch of hypocrites. When Umno members called a certain royalty "'natang", Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali had kept quiet. When Umno removed the powers of the royalty, Ibrahim Ali had kept quiet.

Pakatan in the run-up to the 2008 GE had mentioned that powers would be restored to the royalty once the opposition takes over the federal government, and Ibrahim Ali had kept quiet.

Ibrahim Ali, remember the saying, "It is better to keep silent and look like a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubts."

Hello: Part of the human rights definition in the UN Declaration of Human Rights is that everyone is equal before the law and entitled to equal protection of the law without discrimination.

If indeed discriminating against some minorities is not human rights, even with all the arguments given, the country might as well not sign the declaration.

Think: Perhaps being a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) is not an Islamic right, but it is a human right. Human rights are formed based on the values of humanity, not religion nor one's own personal beliefs.

Netizen63: Nik is a fool; the whole world is talking about human rights and you are talking about religious rights. LGBT are also humans so they should be given enough protection in the context of human rights, so please do not drag religion in here.

CiViC: What age are we in? The Stone Age? I'm so ashamed to be a Malaysian: so to these people the so-called "minority" are not human? I am deeply saddened and ashamed to be living with such people as Nik.

Stories: It is just like separating liquid and water. Both are not the same but can't exist without each other. So why does a certain religion override all other tenants of decency in humanity?

Sabahan: If it is not human rights because they are the minority, as Nik claims, then in countries with Muslim minority, should the Muslim minority be given any rights? The is such an imbecilic argument!
